Nah, I had simply saved the page offline. Thought it would be a shame to lose the thread.

  1. Esther Kahn is a Howard Shore score that doesn't get much of a mention. I think that it only had a Eurpoean release on CD. I don't listen to the CD that frequently however, there are several cues based around a jaunty staccato motif that rank as some of my favourite Shore cues - "Five In The Gods", "Lessons" & "The Note Had Been Struck" - and heard from ~20 seconds into the trailer:

Time for a new clip super gorgeous clip. I posted this in scorereviews though, but it was lost.

The piece is obscure to most western film score fan ears, as it's from a japanese anime. It is called "Sad brothers" and is from "Saint Seiya" composed by Seiji Yokoyama. I dare anyone not to fall in love with this piece, it is impossible to resist. In this clip, which I find quite well made, the really gorgeous part starts at about 1:20.

  2. I sometimes think that if I sat down and thought about the various elements that went together to make this score what it is (Arn de Gothia by Marcos Ciscar) I'd wonder why I actually liked this score so much - especially the disco beat backing. But the melody is such an infectiously catchy tune that I just sit back and enjoy.

  3. FX: The Series (season 1 theme)
By: non other than "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" composer of fame, Christophe Beck.

I love that theme. I used to watch the end credits just to hear it again even though it was nothing more tha na city street shot (I used to count the cars for the hell of it).

  4. Not sure about the images that are accompanying the cue but Henry Mancini's title theme from Experiment In Terror is wonderfully sixties in style. Surely no-one can say that they don't like this?

  5. There are several lovely themes in Shenmue but of them all I prefer the main theme:

I think that this is a synth version for the game itself but the orchestral version is even better!

  6. Finally, the theme from Séraphin: un Homme et son péché (Michel Cusson) has a beautiful string solo (that's almost ruined by the sound quality of this clip) but I hope you get a sense of how wondrous the theme is:

Peter, I had posted a response to Ralph's link to Ken Freeman's theme to the UK series The Tripods and there were a few posts on the nostalgia of theme tunes from childhood.

I hijacked the topic a bit and just posted some links to some of my favourite themes from my childhood:

    ===================

    Ah, TV theme nostalgia:

    The Flashing Blade

    The White Horses

    The High Chaparral

All great themes that I loved as a child and still stand up to scrutiny today (well, maybe not Marine Boy!)

    Falk,

though the songs from the kiddie movies weren't really my thing, not having grown up with those series, I must say I really enjoyed that "Séraphin: un Homme et son péché". Post more stuff like that. biggrin

Since my scorereviews thread is now gone, I will repost my favorite utube clip ever, in this thread. The track is Waxman's "Ride to Dubno" transcribed to piano and amazingly performed by two skilled pianists. This permonance just blows my socks off every time I see it. Enjoy!

I'd certainly recommend the Cusson CD if you're looking for a permanent reminder of the music.

Another favourite - but really just me indulging myself!

There's numerous examples of Jerry Goldsmith's film music bringing back a movie from the brink of total farce - and The Final Conflict is a prime example of this.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdvgMQvpSXo

This clip is one of my favourites from the movie - from a musical point of view! Looking at the scene for what it is, you'd laugh. But Goldsmith's music - from the first 80 seconds or so of "The Blooding" - brings the scene back from the edge. Just!

And a superb example if I might say?! cool

    Agreed.
