After rediscovering Merlin when I listened to the Madrid concert I am now listening to the regular score to Merlin. Love it, love it, love it. This reminds me, haven't listened to Cleopatra in a while either. -

Merlin, Cleopatra and Dinotopia are the trio of masterpieces from Jones. IMOH.
NP:Quantum of Solace (Arnold)
I know casino royale is more coherent and with a better theme, but for some reason I'm listening QOS again and again while I never did with casino royale except for some selectioned tracks.
the rythms in "somebody wants to kill you" , for take some example, are highly addictive.
it's in the middle of the road between World is not enough electronics and Casino Royale more basic orchestrations. -

Stargate David Arnold
I doubt Arnold will ever be this good ever again. I still love his music, and I still get excited with each new score album he releases, but nothing since Godzilla has matched the brilliance of his first big score. For me, this is 5 star film music. (Before a certain Bristolite chimes in, bare in mind this was one of my first scores that I heard in the movie and wanted to listen to on CD.) -

The Sea Hawk Korngold (William T. Stromberg)
My first listen to the Stromberg album. I'll put it this way; it certainly won't be my last.

Brian Tyler - Bubba Ho-Tep
OMG, pure fun. One of the best works Tyler wrote, I think. Very funny rock'n'roll score. Definitely tongue-in-cheek. Nothing to take seriously. He should do more of this stuff!http://www.filmmusic.pl - Polish Film Music Review Website -

Where have you been? And yes, it is amazing. However, the complete re-recording does show some of the scores weaknesses in the middle potions but it's still a classic and the best Korngold score I've heard.

Once again, I've been slayed by "Confluence." Easily one of the best cues of the decade and this score is in my Top Ten of the decade as well.

Cleopatra is my favourite Trevor Jones!!! SOO much powerful fun! It is to Jones what Gladiator is to Zimmer.
I think that some Horner-scored scenes tend to be ambivalent (a better word than ambiguous, I think) precisely because the man is so subtle. Not the other way around. So many emotions can be interpreted in one single measure, when he chooses so.
NP: Babylon 5 - Chrysalis
I had to sneak in to speak about this one before it was done playing. Part of the new batch of CDs I got recently that I'm still not done listening to for the first time, I now have to add that title alongside A Late Delivery from Avalon to the Bab5 titles that actually do stand out from the rest and claim their own distinctive voices. The Chrysalis score does indeed have plenty of very evocative moments not found anywhere else in the series. If you must get only two Bab5 episodic scores, get Chrysalis and Avalon.''The mandate, as well as the benefit, of responsibility is the ability to tell when one can afford to be irresponsible.'' - Me -

NP: Secret Weapons Over Normandy - Michael Giacchino
Top 3 Giacchino! Great themes, awesome bad guy motif (which I love to play on the piano), great performances (those poor brass and horn players), great sound, DYNAMITE action material, a lovely love theme and a finale that blows your socks off!
BTW, I've re-arranged the album so that the "extras" material (on disc 2) plays directly after the original track. For instance, I just played "Dunkirk Harbor" and now I'm listening to "Dunkirk Harbor Extra." This is the way to listen to this score.

Yup, Stargate, ID4 and Godzilla are definitely his best and biggest. I only hope Voyage Of The Dawn Treader goes back to this kind of size. -

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Some truly moving intimate guitar pieces, and some gargantuan action setpieces!! NP: Ice Age: The Meltdown - John Powell
Yep, I'm still playing this.
I've been addicted to The Waterpark theme since I heard a clip of it for the first time. It's catchy, odd and funny in a good way. It makes me smile all the time.
I also love Sid's easygoing theme as well as his crazy Song-A-Long songs. The quiet cues such as Ellie Remembers and With the Herd fit those emotional scenes without being too sappy.
Mammoths is definitely the highlight! And Into the Sunset is really nice finale, as well as The Meltdown suite.
Many other tracks are mickey-mousing comedy/action music, but they're still highly enjoyable, at least for me (I like those kind of stuff ).
*...waits for Justin's ad*
There has not been one John Powell score for an animated film that I have not enjoyed. I think I like this side of him the most. Ice Age 2 is another great example of his talents, although I think Horton Hears a Who is a better version. Let's hope he scores Ice Age 3. I've been wondering though.... would he use old themes or make new ones? -

Gold I tell ya! FILM MUSIC GOLD! Mr. Powell, thank you for Phoenix's Theme. One of the Top 3 themes of the decade!

What an amazing theme! I hope Powell continues to impress. I think he is great at creating epic finales to his films. United 93, Stop Loss, Horton, and a bunch more, just to name a few.HeeroJF wrote
NP: The Mummy and a Tomb of Some Kind... you know what I mean, Randy Edelman
Wow... if I close my eyes and try really REALLY hard to pretend this ISN'T a Mummy score, this actually can come off almost halfway decent. This is more suited for an Alan Quartermain adventure with its flamboyant silly theme. When it first came on, my reaction was: "Goodness - Gracious - Me!" There are none of the ethnic flavours Goldsmith and Silvestri infused their own scores with. But like I said, if I ignore the offense this score is to the franchise, it's actually a decent effort for Edelman when taken outside the source material, is it not? "Shanghai Chase" actually had me excited a little bit and a few of the tender moments actually came off as, well, tender! And so I'll say this: Edelman, keep up trying hard, but please stay the hell away from The Mummy.
I listened to the score again a few days ago and it was better than I originally remembered it being. -

There was something about the original Mummy music from the Universal films of the 40's that just had an appeal to me. That organ Salter used was eerie.

I can definitely see why it would, but for me personally, the ultimate Mummy music is Goldsmith's score. -

It's the Star Wars of its time!
Now check it out in the film. Korngold nailed the score perfectly for each scene. Great film too!
