Even if I think it's too BIG, It doesn't mean I don't like it.
I Like it a lot!!!Specially the most intimate tracks.
And Im agree with Demetris, sometimes the first notes of some themes are exactly the same notes of horner's themes from his Troy.
After I will Play : Quantum of Solace (Arnold)
God, im addicted to this. It's a mix between Arnold and powell. ironically Powell sometimes is a mix of Arnold
I can't wait to know for who is the motif heard in "night at the opera"!!!! -

Well, did you know that the Main Theme from Star Wars - Episode 1: The Phantom Manace is a note for note rip off of the Main Theme from Star Wars - Episode 4: The Movie formerly known as Star Wars? I´m not sure Williams will survive the court martial he´s facing for that one. -

Indeed. You may like the result or not (I liked it, overall) but to write/record two hours of music in two weeks has to be really stressing. Horner saw something in the project that really made him go for it (besides money of course).

Of course judging by the limited amount of time he had and the stressful situation he got into with the contracts and all, he came up with a decent score in the end but to even compare the two is ridiculous, imo. So, jump off the smart-ass wagon I say and If you can't be unbiased towards this, it's not my fault.
Too right! Horner's is so plainly better it's a miracle anyone still goes on about the other one.
In all seriousness... while Yared's is fine music, beautifully-crafted, it's just as indebted to the classics as Horner's is. And while Horner may have employed a few similar choices to Yared, I wouldn't say the two composers' approaches are all that similar overall. Yared went for the "THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT SCENE IN THE HISTORY OF FILM!" approach FOR EVERY SINGLE SCENE! and Horner went for the Hollywood schmaltz approach. Only one of those was ever going to make it as a film score in 2000s Hollywood. -

Stop defending their (Hollywood's) stupidity. MOST IMPORTANT SCENE IN THE HISTORY OF FILM kicks SCMALTZ APPROACH'S ass! I'm really sick and tired of the "old fashion is bad" sensibility. Sorry, just venting here. Yared's score would have worked wonders.

Got the urge to play this because I just heard Barbarian Horde playing during a battle scene in a TV show in the morning!! They also played Burn It Down from Van Helsing and Molossus from Batman Begins during that scene
And now I'm off to prepare for the most grand festival of the year here - Diwali! -

I love old-fashioned! I do prefer Horner's score as music, but I can certainly feel for Yared because I get the impression he was only doing what the director told him to do, and to still get rejected is very harsh on him. The only defending of the decision I can do is that I get the impression Yared scored the film as if it were a serious historical movie (which it isn't) whereas Horner scored it as if it's Hollywood fluff (which it is) and so his score probably makes the film a bit more tolerable. It would be nice to see it with Yared's score restored though, so we could all make up our own minds instead of speculating. -

NP: El Cid, Miklos Rozsa
Finally came in the mail last night. It's all been said before, I can add no more.
Horner vs. Yared: I looove old fashioned scores (as exemplified by the above selection) but I love Horner's emotion (schmaltz), too. Why can't the two styles be combined? That would be an ideal score, to me. That's why Michael Kamen was truly a master.
What is Diwali? I'm afraid I'm ignorant, and morbidly curious.''The mandate, as well as the benefit, of responsibility is the ability to tell when one can afford to be irresponsible.'' - Me -

I don't remember very well but it's something to do with the moon ( full moon? no moon? half moon? ) and the spiritual triumph of good over evil. There's more but my memory is poor concerning this.

Evocative film, too. Have you got the expanded French release of the score? Although I don't regret it at all, it's not entirely worth it unless you're an obsessive completist. It only has marginally any new material at all.

I know there isn't much more on the French Papillon release but I think it is worth it just to have "Catching Butterflies" and "Arrest". I love the gentle yet flighty form of the former track!
So, you survived El Cid!
It's ok. I just feel it's lacking something. Way to thin sounding and needs to be a lot longer.
Aaaaaaaand I'm totally kidding! It's one of the most awesome releases in a long, long time! -

Popped on a few tracks before bed:
"The March of The Villians" - Superman: The Movie - John Williams
"Lover's Ups and Downs" - Food of Love - Carles Cases
"Richard, Duke of York" - Looking For Richard - Howard Shore
"Theme" - The Saint - Edwin Astley
"Prayers For The Missing" - J-ok'el - George Shaw
"Return To The Present" - Somewhere In Time - John Barry
"The Battle" - The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe - Harry Gregson-Williams
I downloaded Wolfram de Marco's Loft earlier tonight and gave it a quick scan through. I really like what I assume is the main theme (heard in the first track) and the 12-minute cue "Casino" could be a track of the year contender? The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn
