Today I watched the Wes Craven film "The Breed" and noticed that the film had some nice "old-fashioned horror score" (i.e. not some shitty electrical drone) . So I checked the credit and found it's scored by Marcus Trumpp. I went to his website and found some nice audio samples.

I had known this guy mainly as an orchestrator for Marco Beltrami, but I didn't know he acutally composed quite a lot of additional music for Beltrami. There is one cue called "Chase" from the unreleased "The Invisible" film (scored by Marco Beltrami), that I really LOVE and consider to be one of the BEST chase cue of 2008. To my surprise, it's not composed by Marco Beltrami but by Trumpp. There are other gems among the audio samples, such as the suite for "The Breed" and "Hollow Man II", both powerful horror scores with a style similar to Goldsmith and Beltrami.

I'm making this thread to recommend Marcus Trumpp, who I consider has very solid understanding of the orchestral music writing. And labels such as Movie Score Media, PLEASE consider releasing some of Trumpp's work. I'd buy them in an instant.

    Link for his website: http://www.marcustrumpp.com/music.html

P.S. Listening to his "Hollow Man II" main title gives me goosebumps. It's like seeing Goldsmith coming back from death. This main title must be the most Goldsmith-esque cue after the man passed away.

The audio samples on his websites are .swf files. You can stream them, then find these .swf files in your internet explorer temp folder.

To extract mp3 from swf, you can use this little software: http://vipnetant.chengyouli.com/attachm … 0665_0.rar

All swf files on his website contains mp3s with bitrate of 192kbps, which is quite good.

And it looks like he composed one of the best cues from Gun. Wow, I didn't know Beltrami and Lennertz used additional composers. I should have expected it though considering the world we live in today.

I don't know if the "general contact" e-mail goes to the guy, but I've asked which additional cues were composed for Die Hard 4. I'm interested to see what didn't come from Beltrami! wink

Just remembered there are two cues in Underworld: Evolution that were titled as: "Marcus Trumpped" and "Marcus Trumpped Again" respectively, haha.

Wonder if Trumpp wrote those cues himself...

    Reply from Marcus:

    "Hi Anthony

Thanks for the Inquiry. We kinda split the movie up equally as far as I can remember. In terms of what's on the CD I am guilty of the following tracks:

    Out of Bullets
    Dead Hackers
    Traffic Jam
    It's a fire sale
    Break-in
    Farrell to DC
    Blackout
    Hurry Up
    Landing
    Cold Cuts
    Yippie Kay Yay
    Break a Neck
    And
    F-35

There are a few more cues in the film that didn't make it on the CD.

Hope that helps, say Hi to John, I'm a big fan of his X-men score.

    Marcus"

My God. So all the awesome cues aren't even by Beltrami. Not even The F-35!! shocked

I'm most certainly keeping my eye on this guy from now on as he is awesome! punk

    "Additional music by Marcus Trumpp".

I'd hardly call all of the above additional.

Yes, more than half of the cd is by Trumpp then, plus the "There are a few more cues in the film that didn't make it on the CD" that he mentions....

And I bet I can guess which cues they are.

    The good ones.

Seriously, this is even more ridiculous than the crap that Media Ventures pull. I know they love to have free-for-all's on everything, but this guy seems to be providing the chicken while Beltrami only provides the roast potatoes.

Hmm... I'm not sure this is entirely true.

If you look at Marco Beltrami's website, he has hand-written score sheets of cues such as "F-35". On the sheet for F-35, the credits are :

"Comp by Marco Beltrami & Marcus Trumpp; Orch by Marcu Trumpp"

This credit is actually a confirmation. I guess there's a Betrami credit because the F-35 cue contains a theme or whatever by Beltrami. I can't recall any theme from Die Hard 4, though. Probably there isn't anything memorable...

    Themes?

Or maybe Marcus just mentioned what he helped on rather than composing himself.

I know when John Powell gets the additional composers on, most of the time they are co-composing cues together.

    And the weird thing is:

when I looked at the score sheets for "Out of Bullets", the credits read:

    "Marco Beltrami; Orch: Dana Niu"

    No sign of Marcus Trumpp...
