I was hoping to hear an announcement for a new Doctor Who CD. Great news!

There's definitely some great music I'm hoping will be on this new CD - music that's more restrained and emotional rather than out-and-out action music.

BTW, the music for Doctor Who - as Martijn has pointed out - is consistently more listenable than Lost. wink

Depends on the definition of listenability, D. smile.

I say that as a fan of the Lost scores.

  7. My opinion of these two scores is always going to be biased as I watch Doctor Who but have never seen an episode of Lost. Giacchino's music therefore is always going to be the harder sell as I'm listening to it as a "music only" experience whereas Gold's music is intimately associated with the visuals.

I do enjoy the Lost music too, but it is a difficult listen, not something you want to put in the cd player and relax too.
    Goldsmith Rules!!
  8. I agree with that, Steve, but I must admit one thing.

In Poland there was a review (online, something like Polish Amazon), saying that indeed, Lost IS relaxing biggrin

Well there are many low key music cues but as with alot of scores you can be listening to something quite and sublime then bam the music jolts and you fall out of your seat.

    hehe

Indeed. That's one of the reasons why I can't STAND traditional horror scores. "Stingers" can be very effective in the film, but suck as listening experience!
    I am extremely serious.

I've been finding that this new Doctor Who CD (Series 4) isn't doing much for me on repeated listens. The previous CD (Series 3) is a far better listen; far more exciting with a greater variety of memorable tracks/themes.

Although, a large number of tracks have migrated over to my mp3 player, most of these Series 4 cues feature themes already composed for earlier series.

[EDIT] BTW, is that a hint of a musical reference to James Horner's Titanic at ~3:10-3:20 in the track "Voyage of The Damned Suite"?
