- discussion topic Movie/TV/Game Scores Through The Ages - Alan's Personal Favourites
- Comment I agree that many of the classical "greats" such as the Barber Adagio, Orff's O Fortuna, Mozart's Symphony no. 40, etc. have a tendency to be overused and thereby lose some of their dramatic impact. But to me they still (for the most part) remain excellent pieces and if it is good music, ...

- Comment ...and I had completely missed that Desplat was doing Harry Potter! Have I been living under a rock? It will be a sure purchase for me though since I have all the other six scores - the completist vein speaks strongly to me in this matter. :)

- Comment Much has happened in terms of new releases these past months... I have had so much to do these months with a new job and a lot of other things that I haven't even given myself time to look around the forum. Thus, the amount of score purchases has been terribly small. It looks though like the coming ...

- Comment Great Three Musketeers suite, Erik. You have truly captured many of the finest moments in the score. As some of you might remember this is one of my favourite scores and one that I still listen to quite often. I really enjoyed to hear it in a slightly altered form. :)

- Comment A better release of North's Spartacus really would be a treat. Would be a sure purchase for me, I am quite fond of North as some of you might recall. Really nice brass work in that score. And the love theme of course - lovely as often is the case with North.

- Comment I tried and it looked like it was available, but it seems like it after all is out of stock. Seems BTW to be the case with a lot of releases on moviemusic.com, many things are listed that when added to cart turns out to be unavailable. Strange.

- Comment Hm. Looks like the last copy of The Blue Max actually went from SAE just seconds before I were about to put it in my cart... the link is suddenly unclickable. Ah well. It happens. (strangely, the last copies of limited releases have many times had a tendency to go just moments before I finally ...

- Comment Can't really decide on this one. It was quite some time since I bought anything now and I am thinking about including it in my next purchase. Will need to sample it more though, only got as far as the first track, and that wasn't really something that rocked my world, so to speak. :)

- discussion topic I'll have a bit of that... Holst's PLANETS (edit - by popular demand)
- Comment An interesting point though, in the comparison of RVW and Korngold: Both composers have a distinct sound which can be heard both in their film and "serious" works, but while RVW sounds entirely like himself, the Korngold sound utterly screams HOLLYWOOD at us somehow. I find this ...

- Comment Yes, Quint's reading is a very good one and Korngold's concerto is one that really gains from a powerful, passionate reading. The few mistakes is really nothing and just proves the point I have been trying to make before in other situations: a passionate recording with an understanding for the ...

I have the earlier Naxos recording (with Vera Tsu and the Razumovsky Symphony) and I was never really satisfied with Tsu's technichally quite good but rather unpowerful reading of the very exhuberant ...
