- Comment I'd never noticed that, but you're right. There are some very Planet-Earth-esque moments during that first track. And it's all orchestrated like that Planet Earth Prelude, too. Sommersby is my favorite Elfman score. It's just lovely.

- Comment
Steven wrote Also, I tried listening to Rise of Skywalker after some time since my initial disappointment. For something that's mostly action, it's surprisingly dull and uninteresting. The only memorable or affecting parts are when the old themes kick in (although, at this point, the ...

- Comment Nice, show, Thor. I enjoyed it, as always. It's nice to go through your top 10 every year because you always include a bunch of less well-known scores. I really like several of your top 10 and honorable mentions. Your show convinced me to give Tolkien another chance, and convinced me that I don't ...

- Comment I disliked Star Wars 9. I feel like it's the most poorly plotted SW film so far. I was underwhelmed by Dunkirk. I was really looking forward to it, but I guess it was too different from a typical film for me to enjoy as much as I was hoping. From a historical perspective, it was good. And it was ...

- Comment The new films have big problems, no doubt. The characters and story line are all problematic. I've been thinking a lot about all the problems with this new trilogy lately, but to go into all of those right now would take too much time. I've recently rewatched all the prequel films, though, and I ...

- Comment THE RISE OF SKYWALKER - John Williams A proper Star Wars score. The official album presentation is a much more cohesive experience than the FYC page was. The new theme in the cue "The Rise of Skywalker" is great. The return of so many themes is wonderful.

- Comment Gave Cyrille Aufort's newest score, LA MALADROITE, a listen this morning. It has an elegant piano theme to start things off and then pretty much repeats that theme without much variation in most of the tracks that follow. The first and last cues were my favorites. It's a fine theme, but it gets ...
