After Ever After

Jerome Leroy

" The violin melts the heart "

Written by Thomas Glorieux - Review of the download only release

A composer who worked under the wings of a thematic writer such as William Ross could only unleash his wings through the batons of an orchestra. After Ever After may demand for a dramatic orchestral listen, it still needs to pour its emotion through themes and gentle melodies. Say no more considering this is emotional music ready to do one thing, make you cry. William Ross did it, Marc Shaiman did it too. The reason I'm picking Marc is because the score reminded me from the beginning to the equally beautiful and dramatic music of Patch Adams, ever the moment it opened with the lovely "One More Day". Violin solos are occasional but heartbreakingly beautiful ("She's All I've Got" and "Home") and various dramatic moments make a definitive impact, enough to recommend this. Even if it doesn't vary enough in the end.

It has a simple yet elegant and beautiful theme, even more it has Marc Shaiman dramatics written all over it
Several moments of violin brilliance, linking it immediately to The Village of all sorts (not a bad way to go), tracks 3, 6, 14 and 16
Somehow it doesn't deliver enough variety to keep you truly interested
