City Slickers II: The Legend of Curly's Gold

Marc Shaiman

" Shaiman's score to the second film is the stronger effort of the two "

Written by Justin Boggan - Review of the regular release

Shaiman returns for the sequel to the series comedy film that was a fair hit with movie goers. He brings back the main theme from the previous film and a score that has the orchestration of the first, providing a sort of continuity. Once again he provides a wacky, out there main title cue, by the way.

Stand out tracks include: "Found: One Smile" with it's happy spirited bouncing; "Oh! Brother" which plays the secondary theme (also from the first film) in soft passages on various woodwinds; "Let's Get That Gold" with it's bass line, beats, harmonica, fiddle and fun western/swing style; "Come and Get Me" which offers some pleasant renditions of the main themes, with a passage offering some action; and while "Jackpot!" doesn't have a tight structure, the last minute is big and builds to a grand finale that closes the CD out very nicely.

In the end Shaiman's score to the second film is the stronger effort of the two, and this CD offers more score than the first film's score CD release.
