Copycat

Christopher Young

" Copying is not Christopher Young's style "

Written by Thomas Glorieux - Review of the regular release

The cold eerie suspense thriller Copycat became the beginning of a wonderful collaboration between director Jon Amiel and composer Christopher Young, a collaboration that (so far) holds 5 titles. And it's well executed thriller music that's right up the composer's alley. The mysterious cold tones, the occasional atonal rhythms and the rather romantic main theme. It might not be the most earth shattering thing he's ever done, but Copycat still beats today's thriller scores early and easily in the first round. A reason is perhaps the usage of themes?! Because that theme is sort of a romantic ode to the character that Signourney Weaver plays, and a returning anchor to hold on to. The coldness, the uneasiness and the occasional suspense are all highlighted by Young's effective use of the strings and the piano, all the while simple breathing effects can go a long way in "Gallows". The remaining tracks highlight the theme well, something "Lay me Down" does even better than anticipated. The forgettable songs in the beginning and the well known classical concert pieces round off a well balanced album. One that will more please the die hard Christopher Young fan more than the person seeking out greatness in any score.

Perfect representation of what Young is known for. Craftily executed thriller music that's right up the composer's alley
All done with melody, thought and craftsmanship
A romantic theme for the character of Sigourney Weaver, it works well
No tracks stand out
It has all been done before, and better by Young in the past and future
Forgettable songs
