Father of the Bride

Alan Silvestri

" You may now kiss ... Alan Silvestri "

Written by Thomas Glorieux - Review of the regular release

Here Comes the Bride. Here Comes Steve Martin. In this remake of the Spencer Tracy classic, Steve Martin delivers a more than funny performance of a father who isn't ready to give up his little girl yet, not even for the most special day of her life. Starring Steve Martin, Diane Keaton, Martin Short and introducing Kimberly Williams-Paisley as Annie Banks, the movie was more than successful at the box office, enough to release a sequel of it several years later. For the music, no sugar was needed considering Alan Silvestri was brought on board to grind it in musical notes instead.

Literally flourishing with bells and the Wedding March, The "Main Title" is a delightful entrée to the movie and to the soundtrack. In it we hear that lovely main theme and the jazzy wedding music that Silvestri will keep romancing you with. Returning briefly in "Annie Asleep", delightfully upbeat in "The Wedding" and "Annie at the Mirror" along with the Wedding March, overtly romantic in "Snow Scene" and "My Annie's Gone" and deliciously sweet in "End Credits", it is once again a main theme seller of the romantic book of Alan Silvestri.

Add to that the sweet little melody for Annie in "Annie's Theme" and "End Credits", the funky music for George Banks (going in funky mode in "$250 a Head"), the classical piece of Johann Pachelbel and the love song "The Way you Look Tonight" and you've got a very diverse yet short selection. Not even 28 minutes long, Father of the Bride keeps it short and to the point. I don't know if much more music was needed, I don't know if they had to insert more main theme statements or more funky escapades. For me it's perfect and that perhaps adds to the charm of this delightful yet short background experience.
