Game of Thrones comes to its third season, and it seems with every season they raise the bar and try to shock us even more. This called for another riveting soundtrack experience, one we're getting from time to time here. There are various highlights here, and boy are they good. The Castamere theme truly shines and various themes return to signal the presence of the characters (such as the eerie White Walkers theme or the thundering version of Khaleesi's theme (one of the best tracks of the entire Game of Thrones seasons). Hell even the solo guitar version of the main theme is enjoyable. When the themes disappear, the score becomes a little less engaging. Suspenseful action cues like "Wall of Ice" and "Reek" lack a certain guideline, and even though the scene in "The Lannisters Send Their Regards" still haunts my very soul, the music turns out to be a little less engaging away from its visual partner. Ah quibbles nonetheless considering we received a couple of brilliant cues to add to your Game of Thrones compilation. Cues that define this series' soul and continue to define me every time I hear them.
The wonderful moment the Castarmere theme comes out and mesmerizes us (concert version).
Always good to consider the themes return when needed. They truly elevate the experience.
Choral enchantment arises in "Mhysa", a wondrous affair thar combines the vocal versions of the main and Khaleesi's theme.
The rock song "The Bear and the Maiden Fair" is totally inappropriate for the CD, even though I know it appears vocally several times in the series.
Not every moment enthralls, despite having their utmost effect in the series (for instance the middle part lacks again something).
