" Indian Delerue, now that's something we haven't heard before "Written by Thomas Glorieux - Review of the regular release
Queenie of Georges Delerue is a score that doesn't really capture me. Weird considering it's a fine score on itself, with a nice and appropriate theme and an expected Indian flair. But somehow nice doesn't convince me enough. I'm listening through most of the music without it telling me it's there to entertain me. Perhaps a shorter album length could have made it more attractive, and less intrusive. The main theme itself is as said appropriate, with the Indian instruments recreating the atmosphere. But somehow this theme doesn't carry nor the beauty of India, nor the drama of Princess Queenie (despite her many tragic experiences). In fact, these tragic experiences in life are often handled with darker dramatic interludes, often pulling away the beauty or intimacy of her life. No Queenie is too long for its own good, and doesn't have the wow factor of most of Delerue's scores. A 30 minute experience could have sufficed, and for me it's one of those scores that will not get much attention from me in the future.
The score is nice enough, pushing the most effective buttons, how restrained they may be.
Way too long, definitely needed to chop many minutes off.
