Runaway Jury

Christopher Young

" We don't run away, but we don't run towards it either "

Written by Thomas Glorieux - Review of the regular release

Runaway Jury was a good film, but a film where I didn't notice the music in. Somehow that told me all I needed to know. Still, considering it was Christopher Young, I decided to give it the chance it deserved. And unfortunately the score is good for the film, but for the album it's not (especially in this length). It's darn right effective and occasionally has the quality we have come to expect of the composer, and still it comes down to basic effective music with nothing more. The final track is nice, and shows that (in a less longer presentation) the music could have been better presented. Runaway Jury is not bad, it' just not special either. And it doesn't invite me to give it another go.

The solo vocals give a light but extra dimension to the music.
The Final track has a nice resolution.
The music is effective, but somehow it doesn't grab my attention.
The suspenseful cues have an enhancement of sound effects in their midst ("Voir Dire" and "Fayeth in Fate No More"), making them less attractive.
The long length doesn't sound inviting after a while too, it feels more like background music from time to time.
