Scream 3

Marco Beltrami

" 3'rd stab's a charm! "

Written by Thomas Glorieux - Review of the regular release

Scream 3 comes from the same people who made Scream 1 and Scream 2, so you know by now what you could and can expect. Lot's of horror and mystery, and of course a lot of Marco Beltrami to go around that. And Scream 3 surely follows the recipe of what he served before that. The only difference is, he does it sometimes better. For instance "Ghost Attacks" unleashes vocals that surround the horrifying attacks on screen, "Last Call" goes a little bit further with a brief fanfare near the end, while the same can be said about the choral outburst in "Stone Cold".

The familiar elements are of course on board as well. His mysterious rock elements in "On the Set" or the return of Sidney's theme (with vocals) in "Home Sweet Home", "Pied a Terror" and "Sid's Theme (Reprise)". But the actual highlight is "Sidney Wears a Dress" where Beltrami finally paints a hopeful future for Sidney, giving her theme a beautiful choral support that listens incredibly rewarding.

But in the end Scream's Scream, and no matter how many numbers you put after it, it will deliver what it promises to deliver. The only difference is the time it's been given on CD. And 30 minutes actually listens a whole lot better than the deluxe treatment of 60 minutes. Plus Scream 3 has a little bit of choir, so in the end I feel it has everything I want it to have, and in a time frame I'm comfortable with. Need I stab more?
