The Gift

Christopher Young

" It's a gift I say, Young keeps delivering it! "

Written by Thomas Glorieux - Review of the regular release

The Gift, a very underrated film of Sam Raimi is for me one of his personal bests. A scary film covering a dark dramatic tale, it's Raimi in light mode (for the Evil Dead fans amongst us) but a personal film too, and one I greatly admired. Courtesy of the filmmusic by Christopher Young. I know, this is nothing that scares Young anymore, and still he delivers when he needs to. After all the films he has done before, The Gift still excels in the horror department, and emotionally it gave me several goosebumps. The violin performances of the main theme in "She Was a Friend to Me" and "Empathy" are highlights, while various cues have some truly creepy effects. Young still surprises me here, and I enjoyed the score quite a lot.

The violin works wonders for this film, depicting in its own way the South.
Some wonderful emotional tracks (thanks to the violin in particular).
Obviously creepy tracks are a part of the sound of Christopher Young, and they scare you easily here.
After a while the melody fades and the eeriness takes over, at times it makes you wanting more.
