Got into a rather heated with a friend over one of my favorite CD's ever and I put this into the top 10. My friend said it was okay We're talking about Yo-Yo Ma plays Morricone and if I say so it was done in a fashion that an ordinary person would find it pleasing. Am I wrong?
Tom
IMO, Yo Yo Ma Plays Ennio Morricone is one of THE greatest re-recordings ever produced!
-Erik-
Thanks for sticking up for me Erik. At least there are two of us who agree. Some of my favorite CD's are re-recordings such as the Charles Gerhardt series.

What I have heard of it, I don't particularly like it. Morricone's music is so distinctive that having it re-interpreted in such a way is too far removed for my enjoyment.
Even footage from the recent Morricone concert, I shuddered at the "Ecstasy of Gold" version I say. It's such an iconic piece (which I love) anything that's not quite like the original is usually a disappointment.
I can't believe that you find this CD grating. Cinema Paradiso and the Ecstasy of Gold sound so sweet that one can easily forget what movie they came from. I am guessing your in the camp that thinks the only version of Moon River we should listen to is the Audrey Hepburn one that never made it to CD. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Ooooh, I love it when people generalise.
I would like to think that I would give most things a chance. Yes, I prefer original versions but there are instances where that is not the case. Maybe I should be more accurate and say that I tend to prefer versions I hear first, regardless of whether it is the original. The first version of Jaws I heard was the MCA re-recording and I still prefer it to the OST versions.
And, I like all the different versions of Herrmann's Psycho I have heard. Etc...The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

Morricone performing at Blenheim Palace on June 23rd - that's some setting for a concert.
Think I'm going to go... feels like almost certainly the last time I'll get to see him.

ENNIO MORRICONE CANCELS MOSCOW AND HELSINKI CONCERTS
Ennio Morricone announces with great disappointment that he cannot conduct the concerts scheduled at Crocus City Hall in Moscow on March 21st 2016 and at the Hartwall Arena on March 23rd 2016. He currently suffers strong pains in his lower back and his doctors have advised him to take a period of eight weeks of complete rest.
The concerts scheduled later this year are not affected by this advise.
Maestro Morricone says: “I am sorry to let down my esteemed audiences in Helsinki and Moscow. If only there was the slightest chance of me going, I would have not considered canceling these concerts, but it appears that this is the only solution. I do hope that I will be able to visit Moscow and Helsinki at a later moment in time, as I was very much looking forward to going there.
I would also like to stress on the fact that I will still be conduction my concerts in Paris, Oxford and Gent as planned in May and June 2016”
At this moment the promoter and the artist are investigating the possibility to reschedule the Helsinki concert to a date in November 2016, in the event that a date is agreed upon, the tickets for the March 23rd concert will remain valid for the new concert date. The promoter and the artist are hopeful to announce a new date before original concert date March 23rd.

Morricone apparently out due to back injury, this month's concerts appear cancelled but the ones in Gent are luckily still on according to the organisers (though no certainty).

Well I finally decided to order a ticket for June in Gent. I just hope the maestro will be there."considering I've seen an enormous debate here about The Amazing Spider-Man and the ones who love it, and the ones who hate it, I feel myself obliged to say: TASTE DIFFERS, DEAL WITH IT" - Thomas G. -

Ennio Morricone announced today that his concerts originally scheduled for May 27th and 28th at the Palais des Congres will be rescheduled to September 24th and 25th 2016 at the same venue. Maestro Morricone is recovering from strong back pains which he started suffering following his return from the Oscar ceremony in Los Angeles last March. He has made great progress in his recovery since, but his doctors have strongly advised him to take absolute rest until June 15th 2016.
Maestro regrets having to move the concerts but is looking forward to being reunited with his fans in Paris in September.

Tickets purchased for the concert on 27 May (20:00) will be valid for the new concert date on 24 September (20:00)
Tickets purchased for the concert on 28 May (20:00) will be valid for 25 September (19:00)
For more information please contact your local box-office where you purchased the tickets.
Ennio Morricone will resume his live concerts in June and the concerts in Oxford on June 23rd and in Ghent on June 25th and 26th will take place as scheduled.

From what I've read of the man he is not one prone to react favourably to being told what to do, so I gather that would extend even to mother nature herself.
I would not be surprised at all he should "die in the saddle" (which obviously I hope will not be for a long time yet!).'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn -

It are back problems I read, for which he has been struggling of the past few years (I didn't know how to put this sentence together). I read the Gent and concert in UK is still going ahead, so let's hope for a good recovery!Kazoo -

This is actually a decent interview. Morricone doesn't open up often but he does a bit here. Ross is clearly a very big fan and a knowledgeable one - he asks about music I'd never even heard of, let alone heard. Can't believe I still have so much of his music to discover, considering I already have more (far, far more) music by him than by anyone else.
