But it was all in a good cause.

Martijn's starting to become corrupted with power. I propose a coup! (Which we shall name Proposition A.)

    Did you see 300?
Did you see Butler acting Leonidas as a bellowing psychopath gone apeshit on steroids?
THIS is Leonidas compared to a Greek woman's rage.

Do not invite a Greek's anger.
Reality is just too frail to handle it.

NP : ENGLISH, IRISH, SCOTTISH etc DANCES - Malcolm Arnold

Excellent work made up of short pieces based on traditional folk tunes, some of which are very recognisable. Great stuff that I recommend to all.

Very eerie and evocotive music, the kind of stuff that for me conjours images of a primeval dawn, inspriring. cool

Time to give On The Last Frontier another listen dear friend? I make no apologies for believing it to be a fantastic work but I am sorry you didn't like it and it was my enthusiastic recommendation that led to you buying it.

Cantus Arcticus is very different to that work.

    No worries.
For every recommendation that doesn't pan out, there's literally dozens that do!

If I don't step out of the comfort zone now and again, how am I going to ever experience anything new?

NP : THE BEYONDNESS OF THINGS - John Barry

I wonder why I don't see this one being played by anyone else around here? Is it because it's not a soundtrack to a film?

Such a brilliant album too, full bodied themes and melodies and plenty of variety, this is one of my all time favourite Barry albums.

Mostly that and partly because there's probably few Barry fans on this forum? (Which is a shame.)

    That's true.

And it is a shame that such a gorgeous and heartfelt album isn't listened to by more people here.

NP : HEAD OVER HEELS - Cocteau Twins

A blast from the past for me, besides film music and jazz and funk this was the kind of stuff I was listening to in the early-mid 80's, original and unique the Cocteau's had a very distinct and unearthly sound.

A sample from this album here...

    Gold Dust

It also takes me back to a six month fling I had with an uncontrollably raunchy raven haired Goth chick called Christine who was the dead spit of Caroline Munro and came from true Romany blood.

    She was fucking wild!!!

Ooooooooooohhhhhhhhhh such sweeeeettt memories cool lick

I can always do with some Miles Davis at this time. That particular album is a superb choice.

NP: OVERTURE ON A RUSSIAN THEME (1875)....SERGEY IVANOVICH TANEYEV

Rimsky-Korsakov compiled 100 Russian Folksongs where Taneyev took the theme and made this overture from it. Coincidentally, Rimsky-Korsakov used the same folksong theme in his Fantasy on Russian Themes. While the theme only appears in the opening introduction Taneyev uses polyphonic development to create one of his rare uses of Russian material.
