I came up with this idea for a while ago, but I remember it today when I was listening to The Boy Could Fly and Fly Away Home. In movies, especially fantasy/adventure, when someone flying (on one's own, or on vehicles/birds/dandelion seeds/whatever), music tend to be very good. So I made a custom playlist featuring music from flying scenes.

    1. First Flight - Mark Isham - Fly Away Home
    2. Flik Leaves - Randy Newman - A Bug's Life
    3. The Launch - James Newton Howard - Treasure Planet
    4. Flying - Bruce Broughton - The Boy Who Could Fly
    5. Buckbeak's Flight - John Williams - Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban
    6. Cody's Flight - Bruce Broughton - The Rescuers Down Under
    7. Madness ~ Flight - Joe Hisaishi - Porco Rosso
    8. The Wind Of Time ~When A Human Can Be A Human~ - Joe Hisaishi - Porco Rosso
    9. Stroll Through The Sky - Joe Hisaishi - Howl's Moving Castle
    10. Moonlight Flight - Joe Hisaishi - My Neighbor Totoro
    11. A Town With An Ocean View - Joe Hisaishi - Kiki's Delivery Service
    12. Flying Delivery Service - Joe Hisaishi - Kiki's Delivery Service
    13. Reprise - Joe Hisaishi - Spirited Away
    14. Let's Fly! We'll Catch The Updraft! - Yuji Nomi - Whisper Of The Heart
    15. In The Air - Bruce Broughton - The Boy Who Could Fly
    16. Ride The Dragon - Harry Gregson-Williams & John Powell - Shrek
    17. Fly Away Home - Mark Isham - Fly Away Home
    18. The Boy Who Could Fly - Bruce Broughton - The Boy Who Could Fly
    19. End Credits - John Williams - E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial

There are many Hisaishi's, because Hayao Miyazaki loves flying sequences. biggrin

I'd like to add more tracks from soundtracks I don't own yet, such as Hook, other Harry Potter scores, Toy Story (even though it's just falling with style wink), Dinosaur, Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind, and so on. And I'm sure there are more from movies I'm not familiar with, superhero movies for example.

What is your favorite "flying music"? Do you have any recommendations? smile

John Williams - Hook - Remembering Childhood
James Newton Howard - Dinosaur - The Egg Travels
John Williams - Harry Potter 2 - Fawkes the Phoenix

    Some great one's there!

Jerry Goldsmith has done a lot of flight sequence music, THE BLUE MAX is full of great soaring music. And my favourite First Flight from SUPERGIRL.

I also added Yuji Toriyama's The Song of Life, opening theme from japanese TV documentary series THE WORLD HERITAGE. Though it's not from particular flying scenes, it reminds me of the bird's eye view used in this program.

I have really nice orchestral versions (performed by Royal Philharmonic Orchestra), but I couldn't find good samples online. slant

This is the original synth version, which is still great!
