Thankyou for putting HOME OF THE DARK BUTTERFLIES on your list of things to release. It's a really lovely score.

Thanks, Michael. The composer's name, though, is Panu Aaltio!

  4. I have heard it and enjoyed it too. But it has been a while since I listened to it and would need to hear it again to comment on it thoroughly.

    How is it like? Stylistically.

It is quite dramatic: string ostinatos and gutsy string lines. It is a strings-heavy score, particularly in the low strings.

But the strings are well supported by woodwinds and piano.

Not an action score by any means. But I do particularly remember the ostinato tracks - quality stuff.

The quieter, more reflective tracks do have a hint of Pärt but this is not a dominant sound.

Well if it's half as good as home of the dark butterflies, it'll be awesome.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  7. The thematic material isn't as good. But that is not a negative statement because the theme for the previous score is just pure class.

Let me know what you think once you have heard it.

Panu Aaltio's score for The Home of Dark Butterflies, released on CD by MovieScore Media in 2009, received a lot of acclaim from fans and critics alike. The Finnish composer is now back with an impressive score that showcases another side of his musical vocabulary: this is a big, epic, majestic, exciting and powerful adventure score where an outstanding thematic approach to the heroic aspects of the story forms the backbone of the score.

Also known as Paladin, Dawn of the Dragonslayer is a fantasy epic that is released on DVD in UK on February 13, co-inciding with our soundtrack album release. There is some truly ear-shattering, 'on-the-edge-of-your-seat' action scoring in Aaltio's score, but it's probably the driving and up-beat heroic themes that will make this score very popular among fans of big and epic film music. Enjoy!

First edition of the CD is limited to 500 copies.

Having a first listen to it.
    Tom
    listen to more classical music!
  8. Didn't you listen to your IFMCA promo, Tom? For shame!

I thought it was fantastic, and I highly recommend it. It's heavily sample-based unfortunately (probably for budgetary reasons), but the composition is excellent and he does a lot with very little.
