  1. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LAKESHORE RECORDS TO RELEASE SOUNDTRACK FOR THE UNBORN

Original Music Composed by Ramin Djawadi

(February 10, 2008- Los Angeles, CA) – Lakeshore Records will release the soundtrack for THE UNBORN, available digitally (iTunes and Amazon Digital) on February 3rd and in stores on February 24, 2009. Ramin Djawadi (Iron Man) composed the score.

2008 was a breakthrough year for composer Ramin Djawadi. His score for Iron Man was highly touted by the press and has earned Djawadi his first Grammy™ nomination. Djawadi has been credited as a composer of additional music for Hans Zimmer on movies like Batman Begins and Pirates of the Caribbean. His film credits include Blade: Trinity, Ask the Dust, Open Season, Mr. Brooks, and Deception.

Sometimes the soul of a dead person has been so tainted with evil that it is denied entrance to heaven. It must endlessly wander the borderlands between worlds, desperately searching for a new body to inhabit. And sometimes it actually succeeds.

Writer/director David Goyer (Blade: Trinity, The Invisible, Batman Begins) gives a terrifying glimpse into the life of the undead in The Unborn, a supernatural thriller that follows a young woman pulled into a world of nightmares when a demonic spirit haunts her and threatens everyone she loves. Casey Bell (Odette Yustman) hated her mother for leaving her as a child. But when inexplicable things start to happen, Casey begins to understand why she left. Plagued by merciless dreams and a tortured ghost that haunts her waking hours, she must turn to the only spiritual advisor, Sendak (Gary Oldman), who can make it stop.

With Sendak's help, Casey uncovers the source of a family curse dating back to Nazi Germany - a creature with the ability to inhabit anyone or anything that is getting stronger with each possession. With the curse unleashed, her only chance at survival is to shut a doorway from beyond our world that has been pried open by someone who was never born.

Rogue Pictures presents THE UNBORN released in theaters nationwide on January 9, 2009. THE UNBORN original soundtrack on Lakeshore Records will be available via iTunes and Amazon Digital on February 3rd and in stores on February 24, 2009.

It's always a little baffling for me to see these Cinemedia promos: while we get synopses of the composer's life and the film's content, actually not one single word is spent on the film's music (which one would think would be a film music CD promotor's core business, not to mention the main interest of film music appreciation sites).
    confused

While I'm certainly not bothered by them in any way, not one of these little promos have ever enticed me to actually seek out the music.

Well, yeah. I wonder, do composers or labels actually BELIEVE that this stuff promotes their work?

But what are they going to say? The Varese blurb is frequently written before the score has even been recorded. PR is PR. Remember that most people who buy soundtrack albums (not us - but most people) do so because they liked the film and want to be reminded of it; it's not actually about the music at all.

To promote. Would anyone know that Lakeshore Records had released the score for The Unborn if not for this thread?

That's my question. Does this stuff ACTUALLY promote? And if yes, to whom it promotes it to? Film score fans know this stuff - BETTER, and ages before. And film score fans are the largest part (if not the exclusive) of the buying public for this stuff.

In that case they have the wrong outlet here.
Surely there must be some better marketing thoughts behind this?
Not just "let's bombard every web site with a title maybe pertaining to something related to film"?

You're not wrong, obviously, but that does make the company seem a little...well..disinterested in their target audience.

Keep in mind that we're not the only market for this material. It will go to radio stations, Variety, newspapers, and any # of outlets.
