Well, he's not my favourite film composer (Williams and Goldsmith are). He's one of my favourite composers per se. -

Good!!!! Because Scott of the Antarctic is a masterpiece and I don't say this lightly at all. Far better than the film IMHOlisten to more classical music! -

I thought you knew RALPH VAUGHAN WILLIAMS is my ALL TIME FAVOURITE COMPOSER bar none, no other classical composer, no other film composer, no other nothing comes close for me Tom. However, as a film composer RVW barely registers as he did so little in this genre, a few sure, particularly Scott of The Antarctic which IMO is one of the all time great film scores, but just not enough to register above the Barry's, Williams, Goldsmith's etc etc etc.
Another example would be Jerome Moross whose The Big Country makes it into my all time top 10 scores but barely registers as a favourite composer. On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

RVW is up there with Tchaikovsky for me. His music is beyond anything I've ever heard. (Apart from Tchaikovsky. ) -

The only ones I'd swap on Ian's list would be Waxman for Bernard Herrmann, Elfman for Basil Poledouris and Jarre for Georges Delerue, though ALL the composers I either admire or have great respect for.On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

I like scores from all of them. I could easily make a top 100. But the ones listed in my top 10 are the ones I believe I frequently turn to when I'm flipping through my cd books. They're also the ones I tend to shove down my friends throats when trying to get them to listen to film scores. lolI'm your Piper at the gates of dawn. -

The top four have been pretty stable for many years now:
1. John Williams
2. Danny Elfman
3. Elliot Goldenthal
4. Jerry Goldsmith
Beyond that, there's a toss-up between a select few favourites that I sometimes like more or less, depending on a whole variety of factors: Hans Zimmer, James Horner, Alan Silvestri, Elmer Bernstein, Georges Delerue, James Newton Howard, Basil Poledouris, David Arnold, Michael Kamen, Ennio Morricone and Franz Waxman.I am extremely serious. -
