Lucky Me. Ehm yes, I also bought The Specialist various artists for the 2 Barry cues (one of them a good suites) and 102 crappy Dalmatians various artists cd with absolutely no David Newman score on it. 50 cents each... Oh well that doesn't do any harm -

Dracula - Classic Scores From Hammer Horror - (mainly) James Bernard
I felt an overwhelming need for the classic Dracula suite.
You Only Live Twice - John Barry
The regular release, which -for a non-Barry man like myself- is probably the best place to start with. Purchased due to one very surprising clip in a previous Guess The Score game.
St. Patrick - The Irish Legend - Inon Zur / Kussa Mahchi / Shuki Levy
I hope the celtic stylings (by three obviously very Irish gentlemen) will outweigh the extremely cheesy title.
The Three Burials Of Mequiades Estrada - Marco Beltrami
Both the buzz and the available soundclips were more than good enough to warrant a purchase.
Deep Blue Sea - Trevor Rabin
I've come to like Rabin!
Not actually a score: At Dawn In Rivendell (Selected songs and poems from The Lord Of The Rings), with Christopher Lee reading the poems!
But most importantly: I finally got my 160 GB iPod, which means that for the coming months I'll be unavailable for anyone as I'll be going out of my mind trying to rip my CD collection, and trying to decide which tracks should go on what playlist...
(A big THANK YOU to Erik here by the way, for helping me out in my first test run in creating and handling play lists on an iPod.
You rock most rambunctiously, dude!...er...I mean dood!)

I spent the first half of 2007 ripping my CDs and populating my mp3 player with selections of tracks from all the CDs. I found that I spent so much time doing this that I lost touch with what was coming out during this time and I never really caught up.
I've had my Zen for >1 year now and I have yet to make a playlist!! At the moment I toggle between two genre-based lists - soundtracks and "pop songs" - depending on how I feel. I also have a section where I have whole CDs that I can play separately. In this section I have placed all the complete Lord of The Rings cues to play in chronological order.
I will be trying to generate a playlist for my "best of 2007" cues...The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

Excellent!
That's gonna seriously save me some money!!

Yeah, I can see where you would do that.
However, I'm afraid that if I don't start out doing it right, it'll just become a mess. 160 GB is a LOT of space (even tough it's still not nearly enough to hold my collection. Which means hard choices. Which I hate.Woe is me. Such hardships to overcome.
), and it's very easy to just get clutter, 90% of which I'll never listen to anyway.
I'm thinking about actually working out some sort of system first, but I'll be damned if I know what it is.
I did like your idea of CD selections to create better "random playing" lists, so that's definitely gonna be worked in there somewhere. But I fear it'll be some time before I'm fully satisfied...'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn -

Initially, I was loathe to choose "best of" tracks from my score CDs and begain putting all the CDs I had on my player at as low a sound quality as I was prepared to get away with. But I found that when I was playing cues randomly there were tracks that were just not interesting enough to warrant keeping on the player.
So I "came to terms" with having only my favourite cues as "resident" cues on my player. Then I could have whole CDs being moved to-and-fro from my hard drive to my player when I wanted to listen to the whole CDs. At the moment I'm putting all my 2007 CDs onto my player so I can concentrate on refining my "best CD of 2007" choices. And so far that list contains:

Do you mean recent purchases or recent arrivals? I ordered some stuff from a certain specialist shop last November and they still haven't arrived.
One of the CDs is a compilation of Arthur B Rubenstein's work, including the complete score to Wargames. I've bought this particular one just for the plaintive harmonica End Titles, but by the time it arrives I may be too old to enjoy it. -

Hey all,
I've purchased quite a few new soundtracks/scores recently.
The Kingdom - A surprisingly good score. I say 'surprisingly' because I didn't notice the music too much in the movie itself, but there's some really nice tracks here, the first being very fast, action based, and there's the pleasant melody that plays during the finale that makes an appearance now and then. Seems a little short though.
The Two Towers - Complete Recordings - I've had the first for a while, only just managed to get hold of the second. Now to look for the final one
I Am Legend - A dark, moody score that fits the film perfectly. Nothing outstanding, but it does have a nice mix of fast past tracks and more depressing themes. My favourites are the first track, and '09 - Can They Do That?' Although I have a feeling i've tagged that incorrectly because it sounds like it's going to be an action based track, but it isn't...
Halo 3 - I was a fan of the first two, so I picked up the second. It's nice having a real orchestra this time, although it suffers from the same problem of the previous 2, it just gets boring and repetitive, especially by the second disk.
Transformers - I really like this score. It has got mixed reviews, but I think Jablonsky has done a great job. I like all the tracks to be honest, but my favourite's are probably 'Optimus', 'Bumblebee' and of course 'Skorpinok'
Baldur's Gate II - Shadows of Amn - Been wanting to get this for ages, but it only comes with the collectors edition. Luckily I got that quite cheap on Ebay, now it's in my collection
The Bourne Identity - Quite a dark score, got some rocky and techno beats, I like it -

Too bad they never released De Flat scoreI really liked what Seymour did on De Kassiere (besides Dulfer and Stewart) and on De Johnsons.

Pino Donaggio - Die komponisten-portret serie fur film, fernsehen und operette No.03
There's another compilation cd (Pino Donaggio et le Cinéma Italien) from Donaggio's work with a lot of the same material, but also some differences (like 7 Il Carniere cues instead of 5!).
