i'm a huge fan of John Debney's Predators, while i know it has a lot to do with Silvestri's original compositions, i think he does some really great riffs on them, and also has some really nice original touches in there. Hanzo's Last Stand has a nice Asian influence in it, and Not Of This Earth has a part of it that builds to the revelation that the characters on not on Earth that I play a lot, builds beautifully. Plus there's a few mad sounds he manages to get in there that i don't know what instrument they came for in some of the chase scenes but they really work. I don't think i have any of his other CDs though. -

I can't remember much of Debney's PREDATORS score (other than when he referenced Silvestri's stylings), but I thought the film was great -- one of the highlights that year.I am extremely serious. -

I know Debney best for his big, lush traditional scoring, 'cutthroat island' etc and big emotional and ethnic like 'Passion of the Christ'. I'm looking for examples of tracks that illustrate a more electronic, even sci-fi ish edge and more playful tracks from his comedy scores with which I'm not really familiar. Any help appreciated! -

Debney's MY FAVOURITE MARTIAN is a decent comedy/sci fi score, although a bit too mickey-mousey at times (the best thing about it may be Danny Elfman's "Uncle Martin Theme").
Also, HOCUS POCUS is excellent.
I think both of these are rare and only out on promos, though.
I'm not sure about electronics. I don't think he has dabbled much in it.I am extremely serious. -

From what I've heard, Debney's okay at electronics, but as Thor says, he doesn't really use them much. Iron Man 2 and The Scorpion King come to mind, but they're more rock than electronic really (and with lots of orchestra underneath). And any time he's ventured into sci-fi it's been the traditional orchestral kind as far as I know, like in Zathura.
As for comedy, well, he's written tons of them. Take your pick.
I'm not too familiar with his career as a whole, though. -

He may have used electronics on occasion, organically within the orchestra, but to my knowledge he's never done an all-electronic score (maybe in his early days, I don't know).I am extremely serious. -

Actually, Hocus Pocus has been released by Intrada and is still in print.

He did do some scores with a good deal of electronics, earlier in his career. Can't say I know of one with mostly or all electronics. The views and opinions of Ford A. Thaxton are his own and do not necessarily reflect the ones of ANYONE else. -
