I don't know Tom? MFP was a very cheap label that did a lot of classical music besides many other mostly 'easy listening' type stuff, you'd find them in racks in stores like Woolworth's.On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

Stravinsky's Firebird opening was also an inspiration, I would guess, for Hans Zimmer's DA VINCI CODE score. How I didn't notice it before, I wonder.A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

What I'm saying Thor is that I found the Planets recording to be above average enough in quality to merit the purchase of the set. Your getting the entire thing for likely less than the cost of the Karajan CD!!! There is crap in the set I'll grant you but also some damn nice material. I was impressed with the Strauss material performed by the Netherlands Philharmonic/Chamber Orchestra among others.

It was just a joke, Tom. Normally a package of 20 cds would get the shipping up into the stratosphere for me.
At the moment I'm not really purchasing classical stuff anyway. A general cutback in CDs to pour my money into short filmmaking instead.A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

Not a bad idea to just get rid of the jewel cases and just ship them in paper sleeves for anyone that is interested in this set or other sets.listen to more classical music! -

Watched Holst's The Planets suite on TV at the weekend - part of the proms.
Thoroughly enjoyed it - and I thought that Sir Charles Mackerras conducting the BBC Philharmonic orchestra did a good job. Particularly with the opening Mars sequence:

Unlike some popular classical works I've never tired of The Planets and I doubt I ever will.
As a teenager I was lucky to see it performed with the LSO with it's then principal cunductor Andre Previn, what a night! I got Previn to sign the LP of his rendering of Vaughan Williams # 3.
Believe it or not, I didn't know at that time that Previn had once been a major Hollywood film composer!?On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

Someday I should review this fine piece and comment on all of the different versions I have of this recording. For those of you who don't know Pluto isn't included because when Holst wrote the piece it hadn't been discovered! As it turned out he was right all along. After discovering the planet they took it away again.
