THOMAS NEWMAN

I had a T. Newman phase a few months ago -- I seem to get those with regular intervals -- where I got a handful of new soundtracks (I have about 30 in total now), the biggest discovery of which was OSCAR AND LUCINDA. I had known about it for years, but only heard it for the first time fairly recently. If you haven't heard it yet, I strongly recommend you do so. In our "recommendations" column over on Celluloid Tunes, I talk a little bit about it. Feel free to run it through Google Translate if interested:

(come to think of it, I seem to remember talking about it in one of our Zoom chats).I am extremely serious. -

There's one track from White Oleander that I really, really love, Rollercoaster.
It was funny Pawel, I wasn't even paying attention, but when I was listening to White Oleander again when I was editing yesterday, I heard something neat and went "oooooh, that's nice" and I went to check the track, and it WAS Rollercoaster, lol. So, it stood out on it's own on another listen, and I didn't even seek it out! -

I heard/saw something about Thomas Newman writing ballet music for an Of Mice and Men performance. The clip was talking about some of his iconic scores, so I was revisiting The Green Mile yesterday. Sounds like a neat project for him! -

Yes, it premiered a week or two ago. I do hope that it gets released in some form. You can just about hear some snippets of it in these 'behind the scenes' featurettes from the Joffrey Ballet's YouTube channel:

From those clips, and from what I've read in reviews and interviews, the music is very much grounded in 'Americana' sensibilities. I am positively thirsty for this!
