  1. Oldfield I think. He might be an acquired taste. In fact, Tubular Bells is a work I can't sink my teeth in, partly because it's rather raw. On the other hand I love Ommadawn and, especially, Music of the Spheres. I also love Incantations, something a friend of mine, who is an Oldfield fan, hates.

Oldfield was only 19 years old when he did TUBULAR BELLS, playing all the instruments and multi layering it so of course it has a raw sound and thank fuck for that!

A real and genuine touch of genius for sure, a groundbreaking album. ( and not 'groundbreaking' in Sun-il Jim's sense )

I agree with you too Pawel, INCANTATIONS is a superb listen cool

It is groundbreaking, nobody can argue with that. But he's not for everyone, admittedly. I can't stand his work.

Oldfield is often great, but I can't STAND it when he uses Bonnie Tyler or variations thereof as soloists. "Islands", for example, is godawful.
    I am extremely serious.

    NP: STABAT MATER (Antonio Vivaldi)

Yes, believe it or not, but Vivaldi actually did more than just the "Four Seasons"! Beautiful vocal performance by Andreas Scholl, countertenor.
    I am extremely serious.

    NP: CONTRASTES (Bela Bartok)

Intimate piece for violin and piano. I know this is based on Hungarian dance music, but it almost turns "jazzy" here and there.

I remember a member of the public being asked on some TV show 'who wrote Beethoven's fifth?' The reply was 'Mozart'.

That's a shame D, I think there is so much to enjoy in his works, do not even enjoy his orchestral work Music of The Spheres?
