One of MovieScore Media's favorite composers, Jeff Grace, is back with another great score for producer Larry Fessenden: I Sell the Dead. Grace, who is best known for his avant garde string quartet work (The Last Winter, The Roost, Joshua), utilizes larger forces than usual in I Sell the Dead.

"The film moves with a darting confidence and it literally soars via the evocative and aggressive score by Jeff Grace," wrote Hammer to Nail in their review of the film - and the music certainly has its "violent" moments (as should any Jeff Grace horror score), but it also reflects the tongue-in-cheek qualities of the film with great flair. Soundtrack aficionados will certainly enjoy its Herrmannesque qualities and inspired orchestrations.

I Sell the Dead, an acclaimed horror comedy, stars Ron Perlman and Dominic Monaghan. MovieScore Media's score album will be released just before the theatrical release of the film in the US on August 14.

    Nice, will look it up!
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  1. Yeah, Joshua was done by Nico Muhly, wasn't it?

  3. There's quite a lot of variety to be heard on the clips but, for me at least, "horror comedy" sounded alarm bells. I don't have too many scores that could be placed in a "comedy" category.

In fact Jeff has also scored a film called Joshua, obviously a different one than the one scored by Nico. Joshua was included on our first digital album with Jeff, "The Roost". It's a pretty nasty score!

I would say that the score plays it pretty straight-forward - not much feel-good "comedy" music on the CD. The comedic, or rather tongue-in-cheek, elements have a sense of Nino Rota. Hollywood Reporter described the score as "circus-like", but there is plenty of straight-forward horror and action scoring. It's a lot of fun, but in that dark and quirky way!
