My new PC produces high piched chirping noises that correspond with the scrolling wheel of my mouse. Seems to be related to the power unit. I can hear the soud through any kind of music. l'll have to sort that out to get real calm again. It's walking my nerves.

It could be a grounding problem?

Alan and Thor I'm glad you're still sticking around this messageboard and contributing when you can. I too am in your corner about the general state of affairs as far as the boards are concerned. I find very few threads that I can comment on. However, I recently reviewed the new Perseverance release of "Battle of the Bulge" and did get some responses on the FSM board, a few of which were interesting. I wish there was more interest on this forum but there isn't. When I tried Golden Scores I found there was little interest. What did have an interest was whether or not we should make my film list a sticky or not. Or we all remember when I complained about the sexy babes thing. I for one do want to talk about film music. I'm not going to try and change anything except my attitude.

Tom is right actually. Check your grounding of the pc and its plug. Also what type of sound card do you have? External (usb) or internal?

I use an internal sound card. I read somewhere, that this could be a part of the problem, too. I chequed back with my vendor and the promised to sort it out.

Now that you mention it, I also own an external soundcart (Tascam). That may be worth a try.

Yeap. You need a power supply for it, if it supports it. Because usb powering only (without dc) often causes these noises. And you need the cord for the external card to have its grounding cut (or lifted via di box).

But, there's also a lot of dis-interest in music that's outside the mainstream. This is particularly frustrating when there's a composer or score that is outside the mainstream (it could be a new score from someone unknown or an old score) but which is highlighted in a post but seems to just sink without trace without any real interest being shown.

I understand what you mean Alan. But, it's also a matter of statistics: film music listeners are rare compared to music in general. And then within film music there are rare or obscure scores too or composers or films hardly no one heard about. So it makes sense that people don't respond if they haven't heard about it and have no interest either. You do realise you listen to a lot of film music, both 'mainstream' and 'unknown' film music?
    wink

About changes at the forum... well, I haven't been too active either and I like it this way. Sometimes I'm disappointed with lack of interaction but then I'm just done reading sooner. I never think in terms of staying or leaving, for me it's easy, I just read and post when I feel like it and I don't when I don't feel like it. That certainly makes things a lot easier. I don't have expectations* anymore so to speak. So, when I'm here and enjoy conversation it's even more fun and it always feels good.

    * This may sound cynical or bitter but I mean it in the most positive way possible! I mean to say I enjoy being here more when I just join when I feel like it and not when there's nothing to read or write for me.

Good to be missed cheesy .

  2. Admittedly not very high on anyone's annoyance list, but last.fm's scrobbling function seems to be broken - again. Hopefully, my listens are being stored somewhere on their servers so that my stats can be updated with a couple of Ron Jones tracks!

After Spotify was launched on to this world a few years ago, last.fm became passé -- at least for me. But interesting to see that it's still being used.
    I am extremely serious.
  4. I never use last.fm to listen to anything. Can you listen to anything using last.fm? I only use it to keep tabs on my own listening habits. And for the stats.

I don't use Spotify either - with the amount of music that I already have (which I am unfamiliar with) I don't need something that will deluge me with lots of new stuff!

In Spotify you can configure your Last.fm username and it'll scrobble to Last.fm. Everything that's on my page is scrobbling from Spotify these days.

  5. Yes, but you can do just the same from iTunes. And a myriad of other programs/apps.

I use Spotify for sampling things I don't have. And it's excellent as a 'jukebox' in parties!

  6. I have been tempted to try Spotify.

In some ways it negates the need to buy your own music - especially for those who have adopted digital purchases and don't have a physical library.

Annoyed by the central heating system in my building -- it works well when the outside temperature is mild, but practically non-functional when it's ICY cold outside, like it is now (outside temps supposed to reach -12 degrees tonight). It should of course be the other way around.

I have to sit here with several layers of clothes and wool and whatnot.

Do you have electric power? Get an electric heater! Make grog, lots of it!

Invite yourself to somebody else's place.

    Hope the situation will improve!

The temperature in western Germany is below freezing now, too. But thankfully my heating system is still working. The one in my school doesn't though. Some rooms are over-heated, some are icy cold. My students suggested to make campfires from maths-books and old furniture. cheesy
