Expected choices, I'd say. Has Elfman's Taking Woodstock even been released yet?

Oh yes, I'm rooting for Desplat and Zimmer in the Best Original Score category. And Giacchino in the Film Composer one (though all of them deserve it!). biggrin

Does anyone else get the feeling that "Composer of the year" can go to anybody who's scored more than three movies at a time...? rolleyes

The board exists of composers, including Fenton, Yared and others, also Robert Townson and Robert Craft.

I would be shocked - shocked - if some of the people of that caliber voted The International as score of the year.

Great! I´m happy for Desplat (loved his Benjamin Button score) and Slaski (this guy is making a name for himself in recent years; he was awarded in Úbeda and now in Ghent).

I'm really happy for Desplat indeed, he finally got some well deserved recognition. Here's hoping the AMPAS does the same next year.

The evening was great, well put together. I didn't care all that much for the Hamlisch suite, but the Desplat section was definitely one of the best we've ever had. Truly remarkable music, and an outstanding performance (too bad about a small flub during Golden Compass). Only thing was that I'd have liked just a little bit more variety in genre of music, with more music from The Golden Compass for instance (other films had two or three pieces, this one only one) or something from Hostage.

Regarding organisation: there was considerable improvement over previous editions: the presentation was much shorter than last year's, less noise from the projector (we were sitting closeby again), and: access to the reception, which was very nice (finally, we got a reception again like in the first year!).

Still, we also had some big laughs (these are part of the WSA's attraction, undoubtedly!):
    - Jacques Dubrulle saying there were composers from "overall in the world".
    - Desplat pretending the bombastic WSA fanfare was the national anthem.
    - Hamlisch needing to be pushed on the stage!

I had a great time this year, and very much enjoyed meeting up with part of the MainTitles gang!
