LAKESHORE RECORDS TO RELEASE ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK FOR BRIGHT STAR

Soundtrack Features Original Music by Mark Bradshaw With Performances By The Film’s Stars Ben Whishaw and Abbie Cornish

(September 29, 2009- Los Angeles, CA) – Lakeshore Records will release the original soundtrack for BRIGHT STAR, available digitally (iTunes and Amazon Digital) on September 15th and in stores on October 13, 2009. Writer/Director Jane Campion (The Piano, The Portrait of a Lady) adapted the film from the book Keats by Andrew Motion. Campion turned to Mark Bradshaw (The Mirage, The Water Diary) to compose the music for the film. The film’s stars, Ben Whishaw and Abbie Cornish, perform on the soundtrack.

Mark Bradshaw first collaborated with Jane Campion on her two short films The Lady Bug and The Water Diary. A graduate from the College of Fine Arts in Sydney, Bradshaw went on to complete postgraduate studies at the University of Sydney. He quickly developed an original voice as a composer and performer through extensive touring with his string/electronic/voice ensemble, Mark Bradshaw and the Like. In addition to his work with Campion, Bradshaw has composed music for several other short films, including The Mirage, which he also produced.

This unlikely pair started at odds; he thinking her a stylish minx, she unimpressed by literature in general.

It was the illness of Keats’s younger brother that drew them together. Keats was touched by Fanny’s efforts to help and agreed to teach her poetry.

By the time Fanny’s alarmed mother and Keats’s best friend Brown (Paul Schneider) realized their attachment, the relationship had an unstoppable momentum. Intensely and helplessly absorbed in each other, the young lovers were swept into powerful new sensations, “I have the feeling as if I were dissolving”, Keats wrote to her. Together they rode a wave of romantic obsession that deepened as their troubles mounted. Only Keats’s illness proved insurmountable.

Apparition and Pathé Productions presents BRIGHT STAR in select theaters on September 18, 2009. BRIGHT STAR original soundtrack on Lakeshore Records will be available via iTunes and Amazon Digital on September 15, 2009 and in stores on October 13, 2009.
