Tomorrow (17.10.09)is the day for us. Yes, its DIWALI, this is a very biggest festival in India. But this year is quite exceptional one for me because in my life, i never seen any US President celebrating Indian Festival. I am quite delighted with the news of Obama celebrating Diwali in White House. I can see huge change in US. So, i would like to wish you all a very happy and prosperous Diwali. Let there be light in all dark places. Here are some links regarding Obama's celebration of Diwali:

Same here actually. I got one single box of sparklers for shagun (good luck), but otherwise we're just doing the normal routine of putting up electric lights, cleaning the house, pooja etc. -

Odd how your memory fooks up after so many years, I just looked in my old diaries and see that I celebrated Diwali in Kathmandu at a roof top party put on by the manager of the hotel I was staying in, we'd left India ( via Varanasi ) a couple of days before. On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

Happy Pongal!
Tim,
It's the harvest festival (of Tamil Nadu state). It's also called Makara Sankranthi in other states.

It's quite fun to have plenty of sweets and sugar cane sticks and check out the newest Kollywood movie release!

Sorry, didn't see this earlier. No, I meant what people usually do during Pongal. I haven't seen a single movie for Pongal. -
