Considering the films Zimmer's been attached to it doesn't surprise me.

  1. And his sound is pretty hip and modern for today's film music standards. How many youngsters like that sound? Think of it when you consider the fact that he's never been rejected and the movies he's been attached to.

You may not like his style (to be honest, I am tired with Pirates of the Caribbean sounding like Gladiator and generally tired of his general action sound, pity Da Vinci Code worked so bad in the movie), but you must admit that it sounds very hip and attractive for today's audiences, this is why it rules.

I think that for Zimmer to give his very best in a movie, you must literally scare him and tell him directly what you want. Then you will get The Thin Red Line. If you let him do his thing, he'll do you The Rock. Hans is pretty lazy when it comes to devising a sound. Thing is that he is the one, who is thinking of the general sound more than many other composers. THe question is how creative he may be, not the fact that he tries to think of a sound for each movie.

No matter what you do you won't get another THE THIN RED LINE, or even Gladiator and Backdraft again smile But judging by the number of projects he scores, the general publicity, the spot-on approach to most films he scores and the fact that he draws the most youngsters and new film music fans into the genre, i'd say it's a place well-deserved. I haven't seen the rest of the list yet.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

I think directors just like working with the guy, he seems like a great person to work with (and will generally bend over backwards to give the producers or directors exactly what they want).
  2. Yeah, Zimmer delivers exactly what he's asked for. This is why he was never rejected.

And most of the times, what he writes is good ol' 90's (in principal philosophy) hollywood fun, in-your-face and non-demanding which satisfies most director's wishes i guess. And plain audiences'. But not all film music lovers', obviously wink

Just because I don't like the majority of his output doesn't mean I don't agree with what you all just said.

    Flexibility is Hans strongest attribute.

Once all the takings for Avatar are toted up, Horner may well jump to # 1.

From the numbers on this list, Avatar would have to make a further $2.2 billion for Horner to "beat" Zimmer.

Again, that's according to the numbers on this list.

It was, and is indeed included in Horner's "result" - but just like with all other composers only US gross receipts to Jan 1, 2010, have been included ($352m. for Avatar).

  3. even though David Newman and John Debney need to work on projects that are below their standards, they seem to fare well when it comes down to actual box office hits. Good to know that smile
