In UK cinemas for one night only, football documentary One Night in Turin takes a vibrant and passionate look at the World Cup in Italy 1990, a tournament where England reached the semifinals through a series of heroic performances.

The main bulk of Stuart Hancock’s epic orchestral score for the film depicts the drama of the classic semi-final between England and West Germany. Ingeniously, Hancock makes use of Puccini’s famous ‘Nessun Dorma’ aria from Turandot, sung with amazing spirit by “the operatic voice of sport,” tenor Sean Ruane. Our release of the score, which runs just under 20 minutes, is a special project for us. Normally, we do not release scores that are this short in duration, but in this case we just had to.

Hancock’s music is absolutely brilliant, the new recording of ‘Nessun Dorma’ breathtaking and the performance by the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra extraordinary.

Our release of the download EP (priced at $5.99) co-incides with the UK DVD release of the film.

    Track titles:
1 Nessun Dorma (from "Turandot") 2.38
    2 Planet Football 0.45
    3 Trusted Lieutenants 0.46

5 England vs West Germany Part 1 3.49
6 England vs West Germany Part 2 2.59

Interestingly (well, to me. dizzy ) enough a whole John Constantine - Hellblazer story was built around that very event, with the exact same sentiment.

The whole story revolved around some sort of epic empathy-eating demon who thrived on negative feelings. Having demolished Glasgow in a mayhem of hatred, depression and suicides, the city was cordoned of by soldiers.

All those soldiers at some point in the story were listening to the match, which is when John realises that if England loses, the mood of despair and sadness will become so overwhelming the demon will be able to take over entirely.

At the end England does lose...and all the soldiers burst out in cheer and song....they were all Scottish! This renders the demon powerless and it is vanquished.
'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn

Cripes! I remember that!! I loved those little twists that the comic sometimes pulled out, there was another football related one, a demon with two heads and four arms made from two skinheads, unfortunately they both supported opposing teams and the demon self destructed in hate after Constantine, wiggling his way out of possible death, told the heads to look at the tattoos on each others arms.
