I found a rather interesting article about the history of Danish film music.

Listen to an interesting suite by composer Joachim Holbek:

It includes music from Flugten fra Jante, Europa, Wilbur wants to kill himself and Riget.

    Hey, that's my video!

The theme from Misery Harbour is one of my alltime faves.

Here's another great piece. It's by Søren Hyldgaard and is from a danish vampire movie called Nattens engel (Angel of the night). It was loathed by the critics and considered a huge failure, but the music by Hyldgaard is excellent. I normally don't like songs, but this one, performed by Louise Fribo, is just stunning.

Thank you, with the exception of that song from The Kingdom I enjoy this.

Yes, I think you probably have to be a fan of The kingdom to like it, because it's a really grotesque piece. I find it rather cool and funny.

Agreed. Another bunch of great scores are the ones Halfdan E. wrote for Per Fly's ''lower, middle and upper class'' trilogy.

I own the Milan trilogy release, but I believe it misses out on some outstanding material.

Karsten Fundal is an excellent Danish film composer too. Loved his score for the Norwegian film JERNANGER.
    I am extremely serious.

I've heard of Halfdan E, but never heard any of his music.

Thor, I've never heard of that guy before, and I'm danish. Perhaps it's because I rarely watch scandinavian movies.

He has a good website here:

(he's apparently refurbishing his site, but there are still some links to music clips there).

With the rise of the label Plantsounds, a lot more Danish film music has been released (well, some, at least). They're a pretty good country for films and film music, although the Swedes are better. Norway is third. Iceland is currently the 'hottest' Nordic country in terms of film musical exports. Finland has bits and pieces, but -- sorry to say to all Finnish members here -- they come last on the list.
