I see that Shyamalan wrote it, but got someone else to direct it.

Just a small correction... Shammy came up with the story and produced, Brian Nelson wrote the screenplay.

SAW was pretty darn good actually. Shammy on the other hand has been on a continuous nose dive since Signs.

Clash of The Titans was okayish in a Sunday afternoon lets eat popcorn but we'll forget it afterwards sort of way.

I saw the first SAW film, I don't want to see any more ( what is it now, SAW XXVIII? ), torture porn isn't my idea of entertainment.

As for Shyamalan, I haven't seen 'Lady In The Water' which had awful reviews, nor have I seen 'The Last Airbender' which also had awful reviews, I have seen 'The Happening' which, yes, you guessed it, also had awful reviews of which I totally agreed with, an exceptionally poor and laughable film.

'Lady In The Water' is a charming, innocent tale; not a big fan of it.

But i thought he made some truly wonderful films. I did like THE HAPPENING too. It's a trendy, hipster thingy for many (not talking about our forum members btw) to bash Shyamalan these days. He did make flops (who didn't? Really) but he's also a great director and story-teller when he wants to. I think he's having a low period. He'll come back, kinda like JNH 3 years ago, and so many examples.

As for the happening, i think people misunderstood it. It's not a film that takes itself too seriously, like people did. It's a bit like old school fun, like DRAG ME TO HELL for instance, which people loved (and rightfully so imo).

I like Drag me to Hell, but that is so over the top and you know you don't have to take it seriously. By the way, you expect nothing else from a directer like Rami.

The Happening on the other hand does take it seriously, has an open ending that doesn't click with Shyamalan and has some of the worst acting I've seen lately. Do not get me mistaken, I think this film has some amazing scenes that totally carry Shyamalan's handiwork but overall, it misses both the stellar acting and a good ending

Yeah... i don't think so. I highly doubt Shammy was doing a toungue is cheek film here. This was just a serious as his other films and he failed magnificently!!!

Yeah... but the great directors LEARN from their mistakes. Spielberg shat the bed critically with 1941 (a bloated, over produced, over budget, over schedule film - which I still find very funny) but learned from his mistake and made, IMHO, his best film - Raiders - on half the budget and finished shooting 12 days ahead of schedule - something that he was conscience of during the production. He continues to work that way now. After Raiders he continued to make one great film after another until Always. vomit

The issue with Shammy is that he doesn't learn from his mistakes. He still writes, produced and directs all of his films. He needs to step back (which he did in DEVIL, which I applaud) and buy someone else's script, let someone else produce and concentrate on directing only, which I still think his very good at... minus THE HAPPENING (fuck that was awful) and I haven't seen and have no interest in seeing THE LAST AIRBENDER.

A small, independent drama without any fantastical elements or surprise endings would be a perfect fit for him now.

I am really confident he'll find his way soon smile

Thomas, as for Rami, he doesn't always do it. The Spiderman flicks took themselves seriously and this is why they don't stick with me at all, one of the many, many reasons at least. He's serious but at the same time a bit more loose and relaxed and it's a confused mess for me with very bad casting choices. It's not a fun ride like Drag me to hell or his previous works, before major fame came along, but it's also not as serious as - say Nolan's Batman films.

    My ratings for Shyamalan movies:

    1. The Sixth Sense * * * * 1/2
    2. Unbreakable * * * * *
    3. Signs * * * * *
    4. The Village * * * *
    5. Lady in the Water * * * 1/2
    6. The Happening * * - I agree that this is his weakest movie.
    7. The Last Airbender * * *

I am a fan of M. Night Shyamalan he is one of my favorite directors. The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs are my favorite movies and get the highest rating. Good movies are also The Village and Lady in the Water but The Happening is weak. The Last Airbender is not so bad as some people said but it's not great either.

I agree that Rami's Spiderman movies are serious examples, perhaps that's why Rami wanted to direct Drag me to Hell as quickly as possible to state to his fans he hasn't lost that over exaggerated edge smile

Signs and The Sixth Sense are knock outs, closely followed by Unbreakable, then Lady in the water for it's fantastical story, then the good and bad mix of The Village, then the poor The Happening.

I really would like to see The Last Airbender though smile

    Devil
    Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
    Music Composed by Fernando Velázquez

One of the most exciting film music talents now beginning to make a name for himself on the international
scene is Spanish composer Fernando Velázquez. Velázquez's score for Juan Antonio's Bayona's acclaimed
film The Orphanage (2007) offered us a dramatic introduction to his work. Now, with his strikingly
powerful score for the M. Night Shyamalan-produced film Devil (2010), the composer proves himself more
than able to write some of the best action and thriller film music out there. Do not miss this special edition
of a film score that will only grow in importance as the years go by and we watch the Velázquez star rise.

Trapped in an elevator high above Philadelphia, five people discover that the Devil is among them – and
no one can escape their fate. This chilling, supernatural thriller from M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense,
Signs) will keep you on the edge of your seat all the way to a heart-stopping ending with a truly wicked
    twist.

    Price: $17.98

    It sounds excellent! So moving.

[EDIT] Call me a big softy, but that brought the tears rolling down my cheeks. If the rest of the score is like this...
