Chemical Brothers Score Hanna for PRIDE AND PREJUDICE / ATONEMENT director.

    http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=29173

Providing further proof that Joe Wright's latest effort will completely new territory for him, First Showing have the scoop from the New York Comic Con that big beat electroheads The Chemical Brothers will be providing the music for Hanna.

Wright, who's hit rather more classical notes in the past with Atonement and Pride and Prejudice, confirmed that Hanna would be moving to "a more modern beat", and that the "brothers" Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons were the natural choice

Outside the "norm" scoring, love it and look forward to hearing the effort.

Hmm... I was more hoping Marianelli would become Wright's standard composer of choice thus providing him with interesting projects on a regular basis. Nonetheless, good to see Wright re-inventing himself, and let's hope this change of composer will be a one-off experiment.

Well if you read the article, he said that he wanted to depart a little from the 'classical' tone of his previous films, both in visuals but also music; he wanted something more modern and 'upbeat.

I read it. Hence my comment on him "re-inventing"...

From what i read around, the music in the trailer is from the movie's original score.

    Listen to it here:

  1. I read that Hanna's theme was written by Saoirse Ronan (the actress who plays her)

    HANNAH

It largely works as a standalone Chemical Brothers album; i don't know how much of this music and in which form it's in the actual movie and that would be very interesting to observe once i get to watch it; but it seems like a very intense, run-lola-run kind of thing, judging from the music alone.

  2. I haven't heard the album alone, but this is one of the most striking scores in a film I've heard in a while. The references to Peter Lorre's whistling murderer from Fritz Lang's M are great. biggrin

I've been listening to the score a lot lately. It continues to grow on me. The childlike music is counterpointed by some grizzly, heavy grooves. Very original.

    Haven't seen the film yet.
    I am extremely serious.
  3. The film is really trashy, but in a glorious sort of way. And there's an abundance of references to arthouse films that seem to find their natural place in this new story. (M, Trois Coleurs: Bleu, Godard in general...) So much on the nose stuff in the symbolism too... a lot of fun just watching it be itself.
