I always felt like listening to THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE (Surprisingly dark and brooding score for a Portman), INFAMOUS, THE LAKE HOUSE and THE HUMAN STAIN. The rest - with some exceptions - is usually too saccharine for me.
Too saccharine? You heard Beloved? That is not saccharine, mate! It's a score totally unlike anything she has ever done! -

With over 70 orchestra members, her score to "The Duchess" has been recorded. The views and opinions of Ford A. Thaxton are his own and do not necessarily reflect the ones of ANYONE else. -

perhaps, but if I look at the movie, I'm expecting a deeper more emotional piece, not her breezy ususal stuffwaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!! Where's my nut? arrrghhhhhhh -

Yes, because we all know "Benny & Joon" sounds exactly like "The Cider House Rules".
Well, both her upcoming scores are in the can, so ... I guess that means no new projects on the plate film score wise. The views and opinions of Ford A. Thaxton are his own and do not necessarily reflect the ones of ANYONE else. -

I'm really a huge Portman fan. In my opinion two of her best scores are "The Cider House Rules" and "The Legend of Bagger Vance", but I'm also hooked on two others as well. They are "Great Moments In Aviation" and "Where Angels Fear to Tread". "Great Moments In Aviation" can be found on the Varese "Pyromaniacs" CD. I'm especially attracted to tracks 9 and 16...the vocal arrangements are absolutely haunting. "Where Angels Fear to Tread" (my thanks to Erik for helping me find a copy of this score), is one of her first commercially issued scores and it always leaves me feeling positive every time I play it. Portman's bouncy arrangements appear throughout the entire score. -

The Duchess is being released on Lakeshore it seems, hopefully a physical cd.
And Burwell's Burn After Reading as well.
Can't remember the last time we had a full Burwell/Coen bros score album! -

Good to see Rachel Portman is continuing to diversify her image. For a while there I was worried she might get into a rut with female oriented period film scoring....A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

James Fitzpatrick asked me why I gave no credit to the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. The review copy I was sent gave no information, track listing, and just the basic information about the film.
