Not the most inspired track choices. I usually don't mind these Silva comps but this one is lacking heavily in any sort of creativity or imagination. Gladiator? Really? The Last of the Mohicans? The Shawshank Redemption? The Lord of the Rings? Where's stuff like High Spirits, Michael Collins, Circle of Friends, In The Name of the Father, Angela's Ashes, War of the Buttons, Treasure Island, Tristan and Isolde, An Everlasting Piece, The Devil's Own, The Shipping News, etc. Come on... Titanic? Ugh!

Maybe they are hoping to make money off of random iTunes users who don't know what they're doing and think they are getting the actual Titanic, Gladiator, LotR tracks.... wink

But I agree, some re-recordings of some of those less well-known scores would be more interesting. I'd love to hear a High Spirits suite, that's a really fun, never-talked-about score.
I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to!

LAST OF THE MOHICANS? If it's the 'Promontory' track then that's totally acceptable as a celtic piece. ( correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this based on some traditional piece of music? )

I agree with you though Erik, it's not very inspired in it's choices at all.

Well, I've started to "revert" to these kinds of album recently (if not this particular Celtic thing, then Silva compilations and other compilations in general).
    I am extremely serious.

Something that the general public would buy if they're interested in film music.

That doesn't come into play here. If you are going to create a Celtic album then don't add tracks like Gladiator, The Shawshank Redeption or The Lord of the Rings. If you are going to do that then just call it a film music mix album. At least represent the genre properly.

You know what Erik its their money and in their opinion the average person on the street would consider it Celtic. Not us but the person who'd spend their money. There are likely none on this board who would purchase it anyway. It would be as if I would criticize a beer company for not advertising their beer properly keeping in mind I don't drink. Unless there is some evil intent it makes no difference to us.

Then you know what... we should all just keep our opinions to ourselves and Bregt should just shut this place down if you are going to think that way, Tom.

And if you read Thor's comment above you'll see that the die hard film music fan is indeed interested in this product as well.

I don't know one person, not one who would consider that selection purely celtic, seeing titles like Gladiator, Shawshank and even Titanic ( with it's tenuous celtic link ) would get raised eyebrows.

True enough Tim but keep in mind the market. I doubt Thor will buy it.

There is certainly a market for what Silva does.

One of the things about all these Silva albums is that they pick and mix the tracks, so you have to be careful you are not buying something that you already have scattered around in other albums.
The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn
  2. Maybe it's my opinion, but aren't half the tracks not in the litteral sense "celtic", but more with celtic flavors added?

And the variety leaves much to be desired.

I'm fairly certain three our of four score fans here probably own at least three random titles from that already, and will probably own four when which ever label surprises us with a complete [b]"Highlander"[/n].
The views and opinions of Ford A. Thaxton are his own and do not necessarily reflect the ones of ANYONE else.
