The July 1 concert seems pretty sweet. Would have loved to be there for that. But - of course - there will be no film music events for me this year of any kind (99% sure, anyway).
    I am extremely serious.

Bernard Herrmann’s centenary and a tribute to versatile John Barry become the center of FIMUCITÉ’s fifth edition

The Spanish film music event par excellence will take place from June 27 to July 2 and will have some prestigious national composers and concerts at Leal Theater, Guimerá Theater and the Auditorio de Tenerife “Adán Martín”.

The V Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ), will be from June 27 to July 2, sponsored by Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, Canary Islands Government and Santa Cruz and La Laguna City Councils. It will rise the curtain with an elegant combination of styles, programming for the Auditorio de Tenerife “Adán Martín” two symphony concerts: the first one, on July 1, with the best Shigeru Umebayashi’s scores (“House of the Flying Daggers”). The second one, on July 2, with two indisputable film composers to whom the Festival will pay tribute: Bernard Herrmann’s centenary, world-wide known thanks to his music for Alfred Hitchcock’s films, and the late John Barry, famous author for the James Bond Theme. Both tributes will be conducted by composer and festival director, Diego Navarro.

The Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, and the Tenerife Film Choir, conducted by Christina Farrais, will play in the first concert the scores of the Japanese composer (usual collaborator of acclaimed director Wong Kar Wai) and of the Scottish composer Patrick Doyle (“Much Ado About Nothing”, “Gosford Park”), with the world premiere of a concert suite for his latest work for Kenneth Branagh, “Thor”.

The Closing Gala (July 2) will pay tribute to great Bernard Herrmann, with a first part entitled “A Centenary Celebration”, where the audience will enjoy varied pieces such as “Citizen Kane”, “The Day the Earth Stood Still”, “North by Northwest” or “Taxi Driver”. The second part of the concert will be “John Barry: A remembrance and tribute”, with a select choice of this British composer repertoire, from “Zulu” to “Midnight Cowboy”, including “Dances with Wolves”, and some surprises related to James Bond, which will delight the audience.

Tickets are already on sale for both concerts, which will start at 21.00h.

FIMUCITÉ’s commitment for quality and its compromise with film music is growing stronger in this fifth edition, becoming an international reference in this kind of cultural events. Before the two concerts in the Auditorio de Tenerife “Adán Martín”, other appointments in Santa Cruz and La Laguna are programmed. Leal Theater will host on Tuesday, June 28, Pascal Gaigne’s concert ("DarkBlueAlmostBlack”, “Stones”), and on Wednesday, June 29, British composer Stephen Warbeck’s music (“Shakespeare in love”, “Billy Elliot”), both at 20.30h.

On Thursday 30, FIMUCITÉ will move its activities to Guimerá Theater in Santa Cruz, with a concert performed by The Symphony Orchestra of the Santa Cruz Conservatory, conducted by José María Vicente, and one of the most renowned Spanish composers, Roque Baños (“Torrente”, “A Sad Trumpet Ballad”).

As usual, the Festival will offer a wide range of parallel activities, such as conferences, screenings, and round tables, which will be again at the TEA and at the Espacio Cultural de CajaCanarias, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Finally, all the communication channels between FIMUCITÉ and Film Music lovers are open through the web site www.fimucite.com and FIMUCITÉ Channel at Vimeo, thanks to the large group of professionals that have recorded previous editions with an outstanding level of quality.

FIMUCITÉ V will perform unforgettable songs live for the first time

The soprano Carmen Acosta and the soloist Esther Ovejero will perform “Salaambo´s Aria” from “Citizen Kane” and “Goldfinger” and “Diamonds are forever” from James Bond, respectively, at the Closing Gala on July 2

The soprano Carmen Acosta and the soloist Esther Ovejero will combine talents at the Closing Gala of the fifth edition of the Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ), which will take place from June 27 to July 2, sponsored by Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, Canary Islands Government and Santa Cruz and La Laguna City Councils. The concert will be on July 2, at 21:00 in the Auditorio de Tenerife “Adán Martín”.

With the idea of innovating in every edition, for the first time, FIMUCITÉ will perform unforgettable songs live, added to the usual orchestra repertoire. During the Gala, focused on two unquestionable film music composers, Bernard Hermann and John Barry, Carmen Acosta will sing “Salaambo´s Aria” from “Citizen Kane”, and Ovejero will perform two of the most remembered James Bond saga songs: “Goldfinger” and “Diamonds are forever”.

The well known Tenerife soprano, for whom “it will be a honor to sing in the Auditorio with the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra”, said that the theme of Orson Welles’ classic is an “extreme work, perfect for a high pitched repertoire”. She also praised its “classic and operatic” structure. Carmen Acosta has specialized in opera, and has a good command of presence and movement on stage, given by her excellent previous drama training. “The aim –she added- is to integrate yourself completely with the piece or the character you are performing, so the more you approach to that integration, the more convincing the singing is”.

Credibility is a constant goal for Acosta, which even extends to her film tastes: “the films I like must also have a story and show feelings”, she mentioned.

Esther Ovejero’s performance, whose voice range has been compared to Shirley Bassey’s, the original singer of James Bond themes, will be essential for her career because “it will be my first time in the Auditorio and before a much bigger audience than I’m used to”. An audience that will not be disappointed because the soloist’s “black voice” has received the applause of thousands of “soul” lovers, a style in which she feels very comfortable.

Ovejero, who is very fond of expression and staging, also admits herself to be “quite an actress” on the stage. She said she was very “touched” to sing for the first time these two 007 themes.

FIMUCITÉ will host the Spanish Film Music Critics Awards

The concert focused on Pascal Gaigne, Arnau Bataller and Roque Baños on June, 30 at Guimerá Theater, will host for the first time the presentation of these Awards, which are voted by the best online, print and radio journalists each year

The Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ), which will take place from June 27 to July 2, sponsored by Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, Canary Islands Government and Santa Cruz and La Laguna City Councils, is the first venue to host the presentation of the Spanish Film Music Critics Awards, voted by the best national online, print and radio journalists through the Internet. The Awards will be presented on June 30 at 21.00 during the concert that FIMUCITÉ has staged at Guimerá Theater.

The Awards, organized by the prestigious website Scoremagacine since 2004, is formed by specialists who write for Dirigido Por, La Butaca, Radio Cataluña or la Cadena COPE, among others. The concert at Guimerá Theater will be focused on the composers Pascal Gaigne, and the awarded Arnau Bataller and Roque Baños. The Tenerife Film Ensemble will perform, in the first half, Gaigne’s scores for “AzulOscuroCasiNegro”, “Gordos” or “Castillos de cartón”.

Then, after the presentation of the Awards, the Symphony Orchestra of the Santa Cruz Conservatory, conducted by José María Vicente, and with Roque Baños as a guest conductor, will perform the “Suite” from “La Herencia Valdemar”, by Arnau Bataller, and “Torrente” and “Balada Triste de Trompeta” by Baños himself.
