I came across Frederic Talgorn's score Heavy Metal 2000 some time ago, but didn't pay much attention. Until recently, when I gave it a try, I realized what a MAGNIFICANT opus I have missed for years !
What Talgorn did in "Heavy Metal 2000" rivals the best of Goldsmith and Goldenthal. "Julie's Journey" features a full-force outburst of brass and heavy drums, similar to what Goldenthal did for the climax showdown part of "Final Fantasy: TSW". And the string and woodwind writings at the more "tender" moments always remind me of Goldsmith's "Basic Instinct" (i.e. sex and nudity, which there are plenty in Heavy Metal 2000 the movie).
After being completely overwhelmed by HM2000, I ordered his 2007 score "Moliere". And again I was thrilled. Talgorn composed "authentic" baroque music for this historical drama, in the vein of Handel. This score is one of the best of 2007 IMO.
Then today I listened to his RobotJox. Being a Goldsmith fan, I felt overjoyed. As the cue "Transformation" features the most Goldsmith-esque piece I've heard in some time. With that pounding timpani and ultra-powerful french horns, for one second I thought the maestro is live again...
So what do you guys think of him? Anyone likes his scores too? -

Of the scores I've heard of his, I haven't yet been disappointed with anything. Heavy Metal 2000, Robotjox & Moliere are all excellent listens.
I'd also single out Président and another worthwhile score to track down. The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

Don't get too excited, he's been replaced on three or four films this passed year and a half. The views and opinions of Ford A. Thaxton are his own and do not necessarily reflect the ones of ANYONE else. -

Woah, interesting...
I'm also perfectly thrilled by Robojox, but Heavy Metal 2000 has always just mildly moved me. I'll add that to my list of "check out if there's anything I missed" scores. All I know is that it ain't no Bernstein...
But Delta Force 2 has some good strength to it, even though it takes the franchise in a totally different, and much more serious (can Chuck Norris afford serious??) direction than Silvestri's wonderfully silly approach.
And Fortress is decent, too.''The mandate, as well as the benefit, of responsibility is the ability to tell when one can afford to be irresponsible.'' - Me -

Talgorn scoring an epic sci-fi film would be an awesome prospect indeed!
I think he's among the very best living composers out there! -

Well, no one seems to be talking about it so I'll just say that his score for Tellement Proches is the loveliest 14 minutes of music I have heard last year. -
