  1. SILVA SCREEN RECORDS PRESENTS

  2. As with a lot of these Silva releases this is a mixed bag. Personally, I always think when listening to these, "how good are they at reproducing the originals?"

There are some great titles here though, and it's a good representation of what's good in British TV themes.

Do you think these are reproductions?
Looks to me like the may have come straight off these old Top BBC Themes albums.

    Man, I love those! love

  3. If you take a look at the Amazon listing then clues like "Mark Ayres", "London Music Works", "Keith Ferreira" and the inclusion of the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra all suggest that these may be re-recordings.

There may be some originals in there but not many.

You never know with Silva what you're getting and the research required takes a bit of time to figure it out.

    That is very true, Tom.

If someone has ever bought one of these Silva sets and then see another release sometime later you would have to carefully check each track to see if it featured on the previous set.

Silva are definitely a pick'n'mix label, having a pool of re-recorded tracks that they choose from for any particular occasion.

As this one turned out there was a lot of material that was available on the old GDI label so it wasn't a bad deal at all.

  5. I think Silva Screen might want to re-name itself: Compilation Screen
The views and opinions of Ford A. Thaxton are his own and do not necessarily reflect the ones of ANYONE else.
  6. I suppose these compilations are more aimed at the general public. And I would assume they offer just what they are looking for: familiarity, convenience, link with whatever the fad-of-the-day is.

And if these help fund the release of original titles then that is good.

Being an American I'm having a bit of difficulty relating to some of this material.
    listen to more classical music!
  7. I can understand that. But, unlike US shows from the past, most of the UK stuff is good as a stand alone listen. wink

    Agreed.
I have loved these themes since I wasw old enough to take out albums from the library...which is when I was 12.
I don't think I'd ever seen any of the shows that are represented on these albums by then.
But I sure loved the music!
