  1. NP: Ballet Suites - Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky

    Swan Sea; Nutcracker, Cinderella

This amazing music is closely related to film music.

    Volker
Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.
  2. That's putting it mildly. Especially Williams is fond of The Nutcracker.

  3. Hedwing's Theme, right? But what I meant is that this kind of music - late 19th century program music in general - would seamlessly translate itself into film music in the 20th century.
Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.
  4. Hook as well. Also Home Alone's Holiday Flight is essentially a rewrite of one of The Nutcracker's dances.

  5. NP: Blade Runner 25th Anniversary CD3 (2007) - Vangelis

Whoever is interested in Vangelis himself revisiting the sonic world of Blade Runner should look into this album. I don't dig all of the voice overs done here but the palette of sounds is quite impressive.

  6. The third CD is appropriate for this thread as it's more of "Variations of a theme" than the score proper.

  7. That's right. It's all new material that doesn't feature in any film. smile
Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.

    Hmmmm? uhm

Shall we also play the original album of E.T. here? Or The Fury or Capricorn One amongst others? tongue

You're treading a thin line mate biggrin wink
On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt
  8. It's not the album re-recording of a film score. It is a studio album that is inspired by the original score, it contains some variations of the original themes and completely new material. So that is different from the albums you pointed out above. smile
Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.
  9. It's not a thin line. The third CD has not been written for the film. It's Vangelis "looking back" at the idea of the film and going off on his own without much of a connection. Sort of his own sequel to it.

    Whatever.

  10. You seem to compare this to composer-sanctioned re-recordings of the score for album purpose. This is all-new composed material specifically for this CD. It's not a film score smile .

  12. NP: The Album (1977) - ABBA

Eagle is certainly my favourite ABBA song. A strong album all round. Lasse Hallström's film has some fine concert moments but a truly silly plot.

NP: RETURN TO THE SAUCE (Infected Mushroom)

I wasn't even aware they had a new album out, untill I checked their Wikipedia page again recently. I ran over to iTunes and downloaded it. It's pretty classic IM; far more than their last couple of albums, anyway. Need a few more spins to properly assess.
    I am extremely serious.
  13. Did you hear about the German duo "Ströme" (Streams)? They perform live with a Eurorack setup. Check them out on YouTube.

    cool Volker

Nope, never heard of them, but sampled some stuff on Youtube. A bit uneven, but some cool parts.

NP: NELSON RIDDLE COLLECTION (1941-1962). Of note is a great arrangement of the Grieg work "In the Hall of the Mountain King" by Evard Grieg. It is featured on trombones and nicely done.
