Limited Edition 2CD Set Features Original Music from Composer Greg Edmonson

(Los Angeles, CA –November 1, 2011) La-La Land Records has released a limited edition (3000 units) 2CD soundtrack for UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception Original Video Game Soundtrack, composed by Greg Edmonson (Firefly, UNCHARTED™). The CD is currently available at www.lalalandrecords.com and will be released in stores on November 15. The package includes extensive liner notes by Daniel Schweiger.

“Greg has always approached UNCHARTED with a mature sensibility,” says Amy Hennig, creative director at Naughty Dog, “He's continued to help give UNCHARTED its identity with the kind of instrumental combinations that say, 'This is different. Listen.'"

Film and television composer Greg Edmonson is best known for composing the soundtrack to the cult space western TV series Firefly written and directed by Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel). He is also the composer for the PlayStation®3 blockbuster video game series UNCHARTED, winner of Best Original Music from the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. Additionally Greg has composed a number of episodes of the animated sitcom King of the Hill created by Mike Judge (of Beavis and Butthead fame). Prior to these scoring achievements he was a protégé of the renowned TV composer Mike Post (Hill Street Blues, The A-Team, Magnum P.I.) working on a number of shows including Cop Rock, L.A. Law and Quantum Leap.

“Everyone at Sony and Naughty Dog has made UNCHARTED a compelling, fun, and well-researched journey to be on,” said Edmonson. “I’m thrilled to be given that opportunity again with Drake’s Deception.”

In this third game in the UNCHARTED series, a search for the fabled “Atlantis of the Sands” propels fortune hunter Nathan Drake on a daring trek into the heart of the Arabian Desert, a journey that pits him and his mentor Victor Sullivan against the occult treachery of a shadowy clandestine organization and its ruthless leader. When the terrible secrets of this lost city are unearthed, Drake’s quest descends into a desperate bid for survival that strains the limits of his endurance and forces him to confront his deepest fears.

Because of the setting of UNCHARTED 3, Edmonson expanded his sound palate to include Middle Eastern instruments and melodies. Iranian-born singer Azam Ali contributed vocals and Arabic pieces. Edmonson also mixed ethnic instruments like the Duduk, Ney, Darabuka, Duhulla, Oud and Saz with the orchestral score, which was recorded in London at the famed Abbey Road studios.

Edmonson admits that he has “always been a big fan of mixing melodic content and themes into action cues. These themes along with the ethnic instruments, remind us that whether we’re in London, South America or France we’re ultimately going to end up in a lost city in the desert. The orchestra is the compass that points the way.”
