I'm trying to decide on a design for a tattoo, and I know I'll either want something to do with physics or music… and I'm leaning towards music. With that in mind, could anyone make me a simple treble clef bar of music with the Close Encounters theme? (The famous five note one.) Include as many symbols as is appropriate. I thought I'd ask here since I want to make sure it's right, rather than do it myself. (And my music theory skills are limited at best.)
I will love you forever if someone could do this.
I like to keep the thread titles general. -

I love your idea, I can't help you though.

Where will it be placed? Don't tell me it will be on your penis.

Nope. Upper arm. The safe choice. -
- CommentTimeJan 24th 2012
Good choice. Is this your first one?

- CommentTimeJan 24th 2012
Yep. I figured I'd go for something I know I'll always feel passionately for (music; film music; John Williams). Close Encounters seems like a good choice for a single treble clef design. -
- CommentTimeJan 24th 2012
Yes, it seems like the logical choice for you.
Had it been me I'd probably have Ennio Morricone tattooed across my chest.

Such a nice idea Steven! And indeed this theme is a good choice since you can tattoo it. If I deceided to tattoo my favourite theme I would need more than my upper arm!Whatever you gaze rests on,do not use your vision, but the eyes of your soul...She knows better... -

It's not necessarily my favourite theme (though it is one of them), but it covers all the basics of what I love: music; film music; films; John Williams; Sci-Fi; Spielberg.
It seems like one of the most recognisable five note motifs/themes, which makes for a more simple and more effective design too! (Well, I reckon.) -

Funny you should ask. I designed the tatoo that my best friend got while we were on the Phi Phi islands in Thailand in 2009. He wanted a fish (pr. his astrology sign) that was meaty, but with clean lines:

I do dislike tattoos.
But hey-ho.
Does it need to be in the official key, Steven?

It's a good job I'm not asking for your approval then!

It needs to be as accurate as possible, yes. -

Why not?

Or at the very least, could someone point me in the right direction for what would be an accurate notation of the five notes. -

Hmm, looks good to me! Cheers Martijn.
I'm guessing it's in the right key? -

Yes, according to all the information I could find it's in the key of G.'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn -

Steven, as soon as I see the notation all I can think of is this!!
I like the idea, but I'm afraid this a capella guy ruined it forever!! For me.
Good luck with the tattoo. -

If I would go for music (I really like that idea!) I would try to think of different ways to notate or visualize music. To make it more abstract.
You want it looking exactly like that, sheet music? Or you want to fit it into a bigger design? -
- CommentTimeJan 25th 2012
Yep, I want it to look exactly like this. That exact size as well.
Would someone with a score notation program be able to copy that and upload a larger picture though? It'll make it easier to copy. -

Will it be all around your upper arm, like a 'bracelet' thing?
I wonder how many people will whistle the theme when they see it -

A larger picture would be more detailed, then I would reduce the size. It could probably be copied from that picture fine, but I just want to have a higher res graphic just to be safe. -
- CommentTimeJan 25th 2012
So when is it going to happen? We want pictures! -
- CommentTimeJan 25th 2012 edited
Soon! As soon as I get a higher res picture! (Just to be safe. )

Not many probably. (Unless they ask.)
Now I think about it, I might have it on my forearm on the underside, just below the wrist? Not as a bracelet, no.
