  1. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

    LAKESHORE RECORDS TO RELEASE
CASA DE MI PADRE – ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK

Features Original Songs Performed by Christina Aguilera, El Puma, and the Film’s Stars Will Ferrell & Genesis Rodriguez
With Original Music Composed by Andrew Feltenstein & John Nau

(February 27, 2012 – Los Angeles, CA) – Lakeshore Records will release Casa de mi Padre – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on March 13th and in stores in March 27, 2012. The soundtrack features original songs (sung in Spanish) and score written by Andrew Feltenstein and John Nau with performances by Christina Aguilera, El Puma, and the film’s Will Ferrell and Genesis Rodriguez.

“We recorded four of the songs before filming even began, because the cast actually sings four of the songs in the movie,” said Feltenstein. “The campfire scene that Will, Efran, and Adrian sang was just awesome. We recorded it all live as we wanted to capture a real moment.”

It was in Venice, CA that John Nau and Andrew Feltenstein would meet, some 14 years ago. Feltenstein was working on some songs in a studio while Nau was there to score a film. Becoming fast friends and collaborators the two would decide in 2002 to open their own studio. That decision paid off rather quickly with the duo securing a ready stream of commercial work for companies including Burger King, Motorola, Coca Cola, BMW and FedEx. They also produced/co-wrote the debut French album for Adam Cohen (Leonard Cohen’s son) for Capitol Records.

A project for BudTV – a series of short films and sketches for Budweiser -- would lead to them working with Matt Piedmont, an Emmy Award winning writer for Saturday Night Live (SNL) and writer for the popular website Funny or Die. Piedmont would enlist Feltenstein and Nau to compose for his web series The Carpet Brothers, starring SNL alums David Spade and Tim Meadows and Brick Novax’s Diary, a winner of a Jury Prize in Short Filmmaking at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. Piedmont would make his leap to feature films with his directorial debut Casa de mi Padre starring another SNL alum, Will Ferrell and written by his Funny or Die collaborator Andrew Steele.

For Casa de mi Padre Nau and Feltenstein’s score would feature a philharmonic string section, period instruments (including a guitar fuzz pedal from the 1960s and a vintage Vox Continental organ), and a full “Mayan Ghost” Choir. They would also pen the title track performed by Christina Aguilera and songs performed by the film’s Ferrell and Rodríguez.

“He [director Piedmont] is a big fan of the mid 60s recording techniques as used by Phil Spector,” said Nau, “so we tend to do things in that spirit, like having everyone record in the same room and have the different sounds bleed into all the microphones. If it was up to him we would record everything to 1/4 inch tape or even cassette!”

Armando Alvarez (Will Ferrell) has lived and worked on his father's ranch in Mexico his entire life. As the ranch encounters financial difficulties, Armando's younger brother Raul (Diego Luna), shows up with his new fiancé, Sonia (Genesis Rodriguez). It seems that Raul's success as an international businessman means the ranch's troubles are over as he pledges to settle all debts his father has incurred. But when Armando falls for Sonia, and Raul's business dealings turn out to be less than legit, all hell breaks loose as they find themselves in a war with Mexico's most feared drug lord, the mighty Onza (Gael Garcia Bernal).

  2. I found this to be completely unlistenable. A bunch of songs with 15 minutes of apparent score. Not to my taste at all.
