I was very surprised that Frankel had no thread so I created one and introduced his Battle of the Bulge score. This was one that I got absolutely nothing out of until I had listened to it several times. It was only then that the intricate layers unfolded. I've included an audio clip.

This was my 620th review. I'm still a thousand behind Jon and CC.

The score has turned into becoming a favorite of mine once I spent the time to study it. As I said earlier the different layers make it complex but as a result there was an incredible amount of thought behind it. For $13.00 it is an excellent buy that you shouldn't miss. I'm truly hoping that perhaps James Fitzpatrick will take this one on as a project. A new fresh digital recording would make for a nice listen. The New Philharmonia orchestra with Frankel conducting was fine. It was the 60's analog recording that leaves something to be desired in terms of overall sound quality. Also listen to the audio clips and see the amount of influence that Shostakovich had on this work. Both of the clips are included in my review. http://sdtom.wordpress.com/2012/11/11/b … gefrankel/ More and more I'm beginning to find out what an incredible talent Shostakovich is.
