  1. Doing a bit of Christmas shopping online for the children and I have a question about the DVD formats.

A DVD set that Rachel wants is listen on Amazon as being available as "[DVD][NTSC]" and as a "Region 2" type of disc.

My player is a region-specific type so Region 2 is fine. But I thought that NTSC was a US (and others) format - I was expecting to see PAL as being the format for the UK.

I know that the NTSC/PAL differences are related to broadcast and I can see how an NTSC format could sit with a Region 2 disc.

My question is just asking to confirm that the NTSC/Region 2 combination is compatible and that it's not Amazon who have an error in their listing somewhere?

Alan, it's an amazon think. Normally ntsc should only be region 1 and pal on 2. But if you see here, you'll find more info:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/ntsc-region-2/f … B005ZSHAP0

It will probably play on your device if it's region 2 but sending a mail to amazon to ask specifically wouldn't hurt, just to be sure.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  2. Thanks Demetris.

It seems to be a transcode they do from ntsc to region 2...but ask them if ti will play alright on your pal dvd and pal tv (make sure they understandt this), they should guarantee it won't play on black and white and/or color-distored onto pal equipment.

Also, if your DVD player is suited for the NTSC format (and very often they are) there's an option in the menu to switch between the formats. Just check the menu and you know if you can play the disc either way.
