No composer listing so this is a good opportunity to put his name up.

    New release from INTRADA...

    CROMWELL

An absolutely wonderful and quite rightly Oscar nominated score, this is a definite buy for me particularly as the LP was dialogue laden.

I'm not sure how many here this music will appeal to besides myself? Probably Tom and Cobweb.

I know the composer and the film/score by name, but haven't seen or heard it. It falls into a category that usually isn't my cup of tea.
    I am extremely serious.

    Yes me!

I have every Frank Cordell soundtrack that I'm aware of.
The rarest I own is probably the 1980 Phoenix LP of Cordell's suites of RING OF BRIGHT WATER and GOD TOLD ME TO (aka DEMON).

One of Cordell's final film scores - perhaps his very last - is the 1976 TRIAL BY COMBAT which I've never seen nor heard. By film guide references, I expect this TRIAL BY COMBAT to be like an episode of THE (NEW) AVENGERS... has anybody seen this?
  2. I only know Cordell's score to Mosquito Squadron. I like the theme for this but I very rarely listen to the score.

Yeah, I don't listen much to FSM's MOSQUITO SQUADRON either; I play Intrada's FLIGHT FROM ASHIYA more.

KHARTOUM has been a favorite LP and CD of mine, too.

Frank Cordell's filmography and discography is sparse, but I think the Cordell score which would most impress current collectors is for Larry Cohen's GOD TOLD ME TO. Filmed in 1975, GOD TOLD ME TO was to be scored by Bernard Herrmann. Herrmann's death at the end of that year deprived us of what would have been Herrmann's post-TAXI DRIVER score. For reasons unkown to me, Cordell had gotten the assignment to score it and delivered a truly knock-out horror/sci-fi piece which can stand alongside Jerry Goldsmiths's THE OMEN in the occult/apocalypse category.

I recommend watching Cohen's GOD TOLD ME TO in order to hear Cordell's oft-overlooked capabilities.

    Here's the entire film:

  4. Is that the film that was offered to Rozsa only to get a "God told me not to" response?

He watched the film and made notes on how he was going to score it. But he was the second composer asked. Rozsa was asked first, and the story goes he replied, "God told me not to."
