If there was a category for safe scoring, I'd vote for Lincoln.

I have still yet to hear it. You and a few others here were underwhelmed by it, Erik really liked it....

I'll hear it for myself soon enough.

I'm guessing Williams is channeling a Copland vibe??? Yes, no?

  1. Yeah, but not as much as he think he would.

  2. I would think that Williams is over the whole Oscar/awards deal.

I think Newman is too but for entirely different reasons. >_>
  3. Alfred Newman certainly. Williams may soon get a feel for that given his age.

  4. I meant Thomas Newman.
  5. I know. wink

  6. I probably would've replaced Anna Karenina with one of Horner's scores. 2012 was good for Horner.

I actually think John Williams has a very strong chance (or at least his strongest in years) this year for his 6th Oscar.

Here's hoping he snags the Golden Globe!
  7. Nope. Mychael Danna scored it. Here's hoping it's the first of many.

    Danna got the globe.

    Adele too for Skyfall.

I'm happy for Danna. Glad he's finally getting some awards recognition.

Still hoping for Williams' Oscar though.

I'd be okay with either Danna or Williams getting the Oscar. Danna will probably get it though (unless Lincoln sweeps).

Home Theater Forum is running a contest - easy to enter (simply vote in the poll and post in the thread). Of course, the actual prize won't be known until the envelope is opened next Sunday - but with a solid group of nominees, the prize will be good regardless

My vote is for Life of Pi - an extraordinary score!

So Mychael Danna won the Oscar for "Life of Pi". Haven't heard the score yet, but will have to check it out.

It's beautiful! The movie is a masterpiece too.

  8. I am absoltely fine with that choice. Danna seized the opportunety an experimental film like "Pi" offers the composer. In that regard Danna had a clear advantage over Williams.

Williams composed the perfect score for a much more conventional film.

    Well done, Mr Danna!

    V.

PS: I just discovered that "Live of Pi" and "Lincoln" sit side by side in my media library. smile
Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.

A very well deserved winner. It's my favourite score of last year!

    Very deserving of the score
    listen to more classical music!
  9. Well done, MD! He's been writing gorgeous, sophisticated film music for years. I'm glad to see him get some time in the spotlight.

I also really dug the use of Barry's OUT OF AFRICA for the "In Memoriam" segment. I wonder if that was the first time for it?

  10. Sucks that Newman is now 0-11. sad
  11. Did he get no composer credit on the song? Was that all Adele?

Nothing to do with Newman. A well deserved win IMO, such a shame that earlier and better Bond songs never so much as got a nomination but hey-ho, it's all history now.
